[Targeted] Synchrony Cathay Pacific Credit Card 75,000 Mile Bonus

The Offer

No direct link, targeted offer sent out via e-mail

  • Synchrony is offering a sign up bonus of 75,000 miles after $2,500 in spend within the first three months of being a cardholder on the Cathay Pacific credit card

Card Details

  • Annual fee of $95 is not waived the first year
  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 2x Asia miles per $1 spent on eligible Cathay Pacific travel and in-flight purchases
    • 1.5x Asia miles per $1 spent on dining in the US or aboard
    • 1.5x Asia miles per $1 spent on purchases outside of the US
    • 1x Asia miles on all other purchases
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Complimentary first year green tier membership in the Marco Polo Club (Cathay Pacific’s loyalty program. Green tier is their base level and as I understand it first year is always free. Second year onwards you need to pay $100 USD or earn 100 Club points).
  • Read our full review of the card here.

Our Verdict

Highest public bonus was just recently 50,000 miles, so this is even better. Keep in mind that this card is issued by Synchrony, I’d recommend reading this post about them before applying. It is worth remembering that SPG, American Express Membership Rewards & Citi ThankYou points all transfer to Cathay. I’m no expert on redeeming these miles so I’d recommend reading this Travel is Free post instead. Award chart is as follows:

I think this is a great offer if you are targeted, 75,000 miles is significant and the minimum spend requirement isn’t too bad either. Shame it’s targeted otherwise this would be going straight to the best credit card bonus page. Fingers crossed this is a sign of things to come.

I was targeted the 75k as a Marco Polo member. Unfortunately I had applied one week before I received the target email. I tried to send secured message and call, they don’t seem to match. I’ve talked to the manager. Any suggestions?

Thanks for pointing out this. I thought having two Marco Polo club accounts would help. Does Synchrony specify that closing an existing Cathy CC would help get approved for a new one?

I was the one who got this offer. I only recently joined Marco Polo club through my employer which gave me Silver status (do not know if that matters). I do have a prior relationship with Synchrony having the banana republic card. The offer terms do state that it’s only available to those who do not have nor have had the card before.

Is this possible to get approved for another CX card with one already active?

My wife has 2 banana republic cards (don’t ask). So it’s something the issuer has done in her case at least. I assume it would work across other cards in thier portfolio.

I applied for a second cathay card while the first was still open. No hard pull. It went into pending status right away. I got the rejection letter a few days later. Reason for rejection: you already have this card at the moment.

asked the rep if i can have a second card, she said yes. How long did you apply for the second after first opening?

Any idea if those targeted were Synchrony customers or Marco Polo Club members? I assume the later, but wanted to check.

Any chance of getting matched to this? Just got the 50k offer. Is synchrony more like barclay (no chance) or more like citi (here’s 25k miles to make you happy)?

Chat rep said no, it was only for new customers, but offered me a $25 statement credit. Will try via secure message as I would prefer the points if possible.

Also no for me via chat . The offer is only for Marco Polo members. Where do you see secure message option? I did not see it.

me too…$25 is like nothing compare to 25k points. BTW, does this card have any mobile app? OMG, I got crazy to use the its disorganized website on iphone.

I was thinking the SAME thing. I will send them a message through online banking/call to follow up. Will post results.

Bank is super disorganized in my opinion (based on application process) but this might prove advantageous ^_^

Secure message said to call in. Tried a hard bluff on the phone rep saying I received the offer via email, but then they came back asking for email address and date received… i folded and will live to be dealt another hand

This card is very MS friendly. Doesn’t constantly lock up for fraud alert like Citi AA and never had to call in prior for a large purchase notification. Just straight up gift card purchases from 0-2500.

Yup, and in case the transaction is declined, the CS will call on the next day to confirm card has been unlocked and that you can continue to use.

I try to see if targeted works for newly Asia Miles members.

Went and checked my subfolder for Asia Miles e-mails and haven’t seen any cc offers over the last four months.
