Avoiding Fees
TD Convenience Checking $15 Monthly Fee
This is waived if you have a minimum daily balance of $100
TD Premier Checking $25 Monthly Fee
This is waived if you have a minimum daily balance of $2,500
Early Account Termination Fee
According to this comment no early account termination fee.
In their online fee schedule, there is no mention of an early account termination fee. Whereas on this help page they say there is an early account termination fee of $15 if you close the account within 90 days. That page does redirect to the Canadian site so that may be the difference. In any case, we’ll be cautious and say to keep the account for 90 days before closing.
Our Verdict
I got excited when I first saw the up to $400 bonus as previously the best checking bonus has been $300, unfortunately $100 of that up to $400 is from the savings bonus. Let’s take a look at that first, you’re getting $100 for depositing $20,000 for 90 days, basically a 0.5% return over that time period (~2% APY). Lots of high interesting accounts offer a better return than that so I wouldn’t bother with that portion of the bonus.
Given that you can only get this bonus once per lifetime, it’s worth going for the $300 bonus as it’s not that much more difficult to trigger the bonus requirements or keep it fee free. $300 is also the largest bonus we’ve seen on this account (it was $150/$300 and then reduced to $100/$200). We will be adding this to our list of the best checking promotions.
Also if you run into the issue of them being unable to verify your identity, try using your passport instead of your drivers license. Also according to this you can open out of state via phone, but not possible to get the bonus (share any other dp you have below).
Big thanks to reader, Sarah N who let us know. Please consider sharing bank bonuses with this site so we can make it even better.

Again thanks for your help! I will go into my Ally Bank tomorrow and link TD. Based upon previous comments, to get the “DD” code you have to push the money from another institution into TD.
Stay tune…:)
Not saying that at all! You just made a larger than minimum opening deposit. That doesnt count for anything…. Link your TD account as I mention above. Send $2500 to TD and wait 2+ months. You can withdraw/pull out that $200 if needed after your $2500 arrives.
What you need for the bonus is DD of $2500. What you need to keep the account fee free is a monthly $2500 (probably after the first month). Here is my DP in this same thread.

Since I am fairly new at this could you please confirm that by setting up a routing number to my Ally Bank Savings account I have requested online transfer to my TD account $200. I need to see ACH or DD code on the transfer? If that is correct, then I will deposit an additional $2500 to receive the $300 bonus
Hey Joanne. To make your “dd” you will have to set up everything from your Ally account or non-bank bonus account. Add the TD account using your TD routing and acct number. You may have to verify 2 small deposits first. Once done with that and account verified then send $2500 to TD. I used Ally to get the bonus about 9 or 10 months ago. This is a long(ish) wait for bonus posting so be prepared. Have fun!
Josh, I appreciate the response. When I filled out the application for TD it asked if I wanted to link an account. So I gave my routing and account number of Ally. I then transferred $200 from Ally to TD.
You are telling me because I did it in reverse it won’t work?
Yes !!! Got my bonus yesterday. Really thought there was a chance I would not get it because the deposit was coded “ACH Credit”
Opened inearly March, DD in mid March.
Me too!!
What a relief.
I thought I already posted it but now I realize I was on the new, unexpired TD offer thread.
Another success DP from my wife.
Opened 4/5
Wells Fargo $2500 ACH push 4/12 coded as DD
Chase $2500 ACH push 5/11 coded as DD
6/14 $300 bonus posted.
Thanks DoC.
I’m quickly losing faith. I opened my account on March 8 and still nothing. I pushed from CO360 2x and just in case that didn’t work, also pushed from Wells Fargo.
The official 125 days hasn’t passed yet but I’m reading DPs from so many who opened a month after me and already have it.
🙁
Perhaps I have angered the Bank Gods. I need a sacrificial lamb or something…
Patti,
Hang in there, youstill may get it.

Deposited 4/7/2017, $2590 via Fidelity (DIRECTDEP FID BKG SVC LLC MONEYLINE)
Bonus posted 6/14/2017 – $300
Bonus posted today, I did the $150 bonus because the extra $150 wasn’t worth locking up $2500 to me. I don’t know which $500 transfer triggered it because in May I panicked a bit when I saw some comments of people saying TD wouldn’t award them their bonus.
Opened 3/1
3/15 Wells Fargo ACH $500
5/10 GS Bank ACH $500
5/22 Santander ACH $500
6/14 $150 bonus posted

Yeah, that’s what I thought. Spoke to the branch manager and he said “don’t worry, you will get it”. I’m not sure they have any control over how deposits get coded but we will see. The deposit was from a state agency.
