TD Bank will buy First Horizon Bank in a $13.4 billion deal, making it the sixth largest bank in the U.S. The acquisition gives TD a footprint in the Southeastern U.S. (Tennessee, Louisiana, Florida, the Carolinas, Virginia) and into Texas.
This might make a difference over time on the bonus front as well with TD Bank bonuses and credit cards potentially becoming available to more people. We have seen bank bonuses from First Horizon bank in the past as well.

FYI – TD Bank will freeze your accounts at the request of regulators for “wrong think.” Churn the bonuses, but don’t keep your money there.

TD has been itching to buy banks. They bid and lost on BBVA (PNC won), Union Bank (US Bank won) and Bank of The West (Canadian rival BMO Harris won). The Fed is delaying mergers though; what used to take 6 months is now taking nearly a year…
I have gotten First Horizon and TD Bank bonuses in the past.
Now, that means I can only get TD Bank bonuses? Bummer.
TD Bank has written in the terms that you cannot receive a checking bonus if you have received one in the past (ever). A few exceptions have made it through – I know one. Supposedly also if you have moved it might work again or have a mailer, but YMMV. Sometimes they forget to include that line in the terms, but they still enforce it.

Yeah, officially the transaction was closed a while ago but they just did the part where they close for a weekend, change all the signs, and move our accounts to the new systems last week.
