Topcashback: Increased Payout Options (E.g. 10% Bonus With Walmart, Target, Grubhub, etc)

Update 3/28/23: Offer is back (ht Davis)

The Offer

  • Topcashback is offering a bonus when you redeem your cash as select gift cards instead of bank/Paypal. Examples:
    • 5% bonus when you cash out as Visa prepaid card instead of bank
    • 10% bonus when you cash out as Walmart, Target, Grubhub, Hotels.com, Nike gift card instead of bank
    • Full list in image below

Our Verdict

I’m not sure if this is brand new or not. We’ve seen Visa redemption at a better 7% rate in the past. I’m not sure if we’ve ever seen the 10% rate with the likes of Walmart and Target before.

Is it common for payout bonuses to differ amongst users? For example, my Walmart shows 3% and Target is 5% (3/25).

Higher payouts are back through March 29, 2024. Up to 10% on some payouts; 6% instead of 5% for virtual Visa.

They must have upped their ‘reject with no explanation’ ratio.

I tried to cash out my $200 to Walmart for the extra 10%, but got this strange message from customer service:

“Hi there,
We are not currently paying cashback to the region you are in. Your cashback is safe and will remain in your account but we are currently not making payments to your region. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Best wishes.”

I live in near DC and am in SoCal right now. I complained and asked them to clarify what the “region” means and got this as a response:

“I’m afraid the payment provider we use will not process gift card requests due to restrictions in place as a result of the region you’re in. If you have a US bank account then you can request an ACH payout request as normal.”

My account balance lost the $200 I had claimed as a gift card, so I’m not sure what’s gonna happen. May need to wait or pester them nonstop.

For those with a capital one 5% Walmart card, and also the ability to liquidate VGC easily – the VGC option here is actually better value than the Walmart option.

Let’s say you have $100 at TCB.

Option 1: Redeem for $110 Walmart, this let’s you spend $110 at Walmart.

Option 2: Redeem for $105 VGC. Pay your Citi cc card with it (or liquidate in any other easy way by paying other bills). Now you have $105 extra cash available because you don’t need to pay $105 worth of bills with your cash. You can now spend $110.52 at Walmart using your Capital One card – this is costing you $105 after the C1 cashback. So essentially you spent $100 of TCB earnings and were able to purchase $110.52 at Walmart.

Option 2 is better by $0.52. only caveat is you just be holding both a C1 Walmart card and also a Citi card (or alternatively have a good way to liquidate the VGC).

I am always trepidacious about a digital VGC.
It should be useable to pay utilities and such online, but I am always holding my breath when I do it.
I know that having the receptionist at the dentist office key in the numbers usually works.

FYI Visa is always 5% unless raised. This is only for most of the store GC, and I quote (and note rando-end time):

From now through Friday, March 31st, you can make an additional 10% cash back just by requesting your money as a Sephora, Target, Walmart, Nike, Gap, adidas, Grubhub, Disney, Old Navy or Hotels.com gift card. Visit our blog today to learn how to payout in four easy steps!

Hurry! This offer ends, Friday, March 31st 2023 at 1:00 PM PT.

Every user should get a bonus for putting up with TCB’s nonsense of missed tracking, claim tickets, delayed payouts, and “merchant” denials. And if you haven’t run into any of these issues yet, consider yourself lucky, but it is only a matter of time.

I think this is the first year in 4-5 that my VRBO booking tracked on TCB. Every other year it was a different excuse.

How long does it take for cashback to be available? My cashback from amazon has been tracked for around 3 months, but still not payable.

If it is beyond the time for Amazon, create a support ticket.

If you look at your transactions in the website rather than the app it usually gives a fairly accurate estimate. It’s been a while but I think Amazon usually displays 8 weeks.
