This is open to new registrations again!

The Offer

Direct Link

  • American Express cardholders can get two free Uber rides, up to $65 each, at participating airports this holiday season

Just enter promo code: AMEXAIRPORT in the app (the Promotions tab in the old app or the Payments tab in the new one) before requesting the ride, and pay for the ride with any Amex card.

The rides must originate from the following airports:

  • LaGuardia Airport (LGA)
  • John F. Kennedy International Airport  (JFK)
  • Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)
  • Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD)
  • Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW)
  • Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA)
  • Boston Logan International Airport (BOS)
  • McCarran International Airport (LAS)
  • George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
  • Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)
  • Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)

The Fine Print

  • All credit and charge cards are eligible; prepaid cards are not
  • Rides must originate from the airport; rides going to the airport don’t count
  • Rides over $65 will get a $65 discount with the balance being charged to the Amex card
  • Rides under $65 will be free; no credit balance will carry over to the next ride
  • Promotion is valid on all Uber rides including uberPOOL and uberX
  • You must complete your 2 free rides (up to $65 each) before 11:59pm on December 31, 2016
  • This promotion cannot be combined with any other offers or promotions; when you enter multiple promotion codes in the Uber app, the most recently entered code that is eligible for the ride will be applied to that ride; once you have added a promotion code to your Uber app, you cannot delete it
  • Must enter the airport name in the pick-up location in the Uber app when requesting your rides
  • New and existing Uber users are eligible
  • The discounted cost of a ride will be displayed on your post-ride email receipt
  • Enrollment limited

Our Verdict

Very nice offer with a surprisingly generous $65 cap, twice!

I’d recommend adding the promo code now in case it runs out. You’ll need an Amex card already linked in order to be able to add the offer.

I used the promo on Friday and it worked great: JFK to Times Square: $61 UberX fare reduced to $0. I was surprised there was no surcharge on a Friday departing JFK at 4:48p and arriving in Times Square at 6:32p. Leaving Times Square on Sunday I was checking prices. UberPOOL was $35 until around noon then it shot up to close to $55. By 2pm it was almost at $80. UberX was only $2-$3 more. Ended up taking the subway back to JFK. Plenty of open seats.

Is there any way to use this promo before using a free $20 referral promo already on my account?

Dangit, guess I waited too late. Just tried to add this code right now coz I can make use of it in a few days. But it now errors out & says: “promo redemption limit exceeded.”

You snooze, you lose. Always add all promos even if you don’t have any immediate plans to use em at the time. Sucks that the limit evaporated so quick even tho promo runs till the end of the year.

Can I do a MDW to ORD cross city hop with this deal? I’m flying into MDW on 12/18, and was going to take Chicago Metro over to ORD to catch a later flight. Terms say the ride must originate at one of the listed airports, but it doesn’t say anything about where it terminates.

I think that would work.

I’m flying out of BWI before 12/31, but I’ll be leaving from DC. I wonder if I could benefit from this deal if I Metro to DCA and then take a cab from DCA to BWI. I was planning on Metro-ing anyways to DC Union Station for an Amtrak trip to BWI…

Does this promotion show anywhere? I don’t see the promotion listed on my acct anywhere even though it says code was successfully entered. When I tried to order an uber from Las Vegas airport as an experiment, it shows the ride is $15. So the price will be adjusted post-ride?

The official Uber webpage for this deal is at https://www.uber.com/promo/american-express-airport-rides-2016/. According to the FAQs on that webpage, “[t]he discounted fare will be displayed on your post-ride email receipt.”

If you’re traveling from one of these airports, this is a steal.

I happened to be flying into ORD today and got an Uber Select home (would have cost me $60) for free!
