The Offer
- Bank of Texas is offering a $400/$800 bonus when you open a new checking account and complete the following requirements:
- Use promo code TEXOFR
- $800 with Premier Checking account. Qualify for the bonus by having an aggregate of at least $1,500 in ACH deposits within the first 90 days of account opening, and maintaining a monthly average balance of $10,000 or higher
- $400 with Access Checking. Qualify for the bonus by having an aggregate of at least $1,500 in ACH deposits within the first 90 days of opening your Access Checking account.
The Fine Print
- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them
Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
Premier checking has a $25 monthly fee. For each statement cycle that one of the following requirements of average daily balances are met, you’ll avoid the $25 monthly service fee:
- $25,000 or more in linked bank deposit accounts (checking, savings, CDs, FDIC-insured IRAs)
- or $50,000 or more in any combination of qualifying linked banking, brokerage (available through BOK Financial Advisors – excluding 529s and managed trusts) and 10% credit balances (mortgage, HELOC, PLOC, auto loan & personal loan – excludes small business loans). Accounts are not automatically linked. Please notify your banker which accounts should be linked.
Early Account Termination Fee
Wasn’t able to find a fee schedule so unsure if there is any EATF.
Our Verdict
Don’t think the $800 bonus is worth doing as it’s difficult to keep the account fee free and trigger the bonus. $400 bonus may be worth it. It’s also unclear how strict the location restriction is as well.

Does anyone know the latest time to deposit the $10K, and how long we need to maintain that balance? Do we need to keep the $10K for 60 days or 90 days?
Looks like this offer is available in San Antonio as well, might be worth a shot for those living in the area.

I couldn’t find a geo restriction for this offer in the terms but it could be specific like the Woodlands offer.
“Offer only available in the greater San Antonio metropolitan area, defined as the San Antonio – New Braunfels MSA”
For those who said they were able to open account, are you certain that the bonus will work? I was told by branch manager that this is strictly woodlands area (around 5-7 mile) and refused to apply.
Can someone who did a real DD post what the transaction said? I did a Sofi transfer and it says credit.
I used fedility and was shown as credit as well
Let me know if it ends up working for you
It says, “xxx(company’s name) payroll – Type: DEP
Applied outside of Houston (TX resident) & approved the next day.
P2 lives in Dallas with chex frozen, applied online and got instant approval.
Thanks for the data point.
Ugh, the terms are not so clear. Did anyone try to go to branch and ask?
Submitted online and to went to manual review status. I live in 77433 and work in Woodlands. Will update once I get a reply from them.
Hi, did you get any reply back?
I got approved and account is open. BUT, I got a welcome email from another branch which has me worried because it isn’t the woodlands branch.. “I’m the manager of our NW Houston banking center, our location nearest to you.”
Not sure if it an going to be eligible now or not, it sure smells like it’s out of terms… 🙁
Any DP’s to see if ACH push works for them? Maybe Ally?
I was able to open their checking account living in Tomball.
It will be helpful if you can share whether they allowed you to open in branch Or you just tried online?
Opened online with the code submission at the end.
Thanks for getting back! You might still be lucky and get the bonus by opening account online, since the branch was adamant that they can open the account only if they see Tomball address in the DL and hence I stopped right there. Good Luck to you!
Did you mean The Woodlands address? My zip code is associated with both cities, so I may have gotten lucky because of that.
My zipcode is in Katy and they said the DL should show Woodlands as the city to be eligible for the bonus. Even the flyer says –
1) Exclusively for The Woodlands clients
2) Offer only available in The Woodlands, Texas.
Yes, that is also why I did not do it and went with college offer. But who knows! I wish I was able to do it online and try my chance.
Opened online.
Soft pull.
