August 12, 2016September 9th, 2016 - Make two purchases of $25 or more within 60 days of account opening
You’ll get $50 as a statement credit. This is in addition to any points you get as the ordinary signup bonus on the card.
You don’t open the credit card together with the checking account. Just open the checking, then before August 12 open any personal/consumer credit card using a regular online application (no special link needed), and you’ll be eligible for the $50 bonus.
Qualifying U.S. Bank Consumer Credit Cards: Cash+ Visa Signature, Cash+ Visa Platinum, Cash 365 American Express, FlexPerks Select+ American Express, FlexPerks Select Rewards Visa, Visa Platinum, FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa Signature & FlexPerks Gold American Express.
Update
A reader points out that the terms indicate that the $50 bonus can not be combined with any other credit card offers. It might be that they are included standard signup bonuses. If true, you’ll end up getting the signup bonus but not the extra $50.

Avoiding Fees
U.S bank has three checking products which qualify for this promotion:
- Silver Checking Account
- Gold Checking Account
- Platinum Checking account
Probably the easiest way to keep this fee free is to open the Gold Checking account; if you have a U.S Bank credit card then the monthly fees on this account are waived.
If you don’t have a U.S Bank credit card and aren’t planning on getting one, your best bet is to open the Silver checking account which has of $8.95 ($6.95 if you enroll in paperless statements).
Fee is waived if you do these three things:
- Go paperless
- Open a Package Money Market Savings account
- Do one of these two things:
- Have combined direct deposits totaling $1,000 or more, OR
- Maintain an average monthly balance of $1,500
Early Termination Fee
U.S Bank used to charge an early account termination fee, but they no longer charge this fee.
Our Verdict
U.S. Bank comes out with an annual summer banking promotion. In the past, these have been $125 or $150. This time, they’re offering $150 with the added $50 credit card bonus.
All-in-all, it’s a solid bonus: no hard pull, $500 in credit card funding, and it’s a $200 bonus total with the credit card.
Of course, applying for the credit card will result in a hard pull. See 20 Things Everybody Should Know About US Bank Credit Cards before applying.
We’ll add this bonus to our best bank bonuses list and also our complete listing of checking bonuses.
Hat tip to Maximizingmoney
I signed up for my account around Labor Day last year and I finally received my bonus on January 23rd. I had to call their customer service and apparently there was some sort of technical difficulty on US Bank’s end. Not sure if that was the reason, but I got the $150 bonus, so I don’t care too much.
Call customer service if you are still waiting for your bonus!
So apparently if you opened the account on Sept 9th the bonus wouldn’t post automatically. Opened a case, and a week later they deposited the $150 for both my wife and I.
The monthly fee is not waived with a business CC, it needs to be a personal CC for the Gold account. Pulling funds and closing.
I finally got the $150 bonus a week ago after several email requests. They had originally replied to an email in October saying I qualified for the bonus but I had to keep emailing about it to get them to pay up. Makes me think they are hoping people will just forget about it.
It’s been over 90 days from the date that I completed the two bill pays and I have not received the bonus yet. Terms state bonus should post within 60 days. Anyone else in my boat or have you received the bonus yet? Wife also has not received the bonus.
I called in last month and inquired and got the oh yes you qualified we will manually add next week, and here 4 weeks later still nothing. I would suggest you call in and ask about it. They told me this time Jan 10, 2017. So if not there in the morning I will call one last time and then probably go with the CFPB complaint.
Good luck
My bonus finally showed up today. took a month of calls.
I have been told for a month that they are manually applying the credit and I should have it next week. At this point if it is not there tomorrow I am going through CFPB route as this is ridiculous. I had thought of keeping the account to use but if they are this incompetent I am out once I finally get the bonus.
I applied online using the link for opening the account on 9/8/2016 with credit card funding. My application summary stated that it will take two days to review and open the account. I satisfied all the bonus requirements. But US bank denied the bonus and the reason told was that it opened on 9/12/2016 but the offer expired on 9/9/2016.
Anyone faced the same issue ? Am I right to demand that I applied when the offer is available and it expired dud to delay in their side, so I am supposed to get it
Just FYI:
Closed the account today over the phone. It was a simple, 3-minute call. Nice and easy.
Thanks for the bonus!
Heads up– US Bank rep said I won’t be getting the bonus because I didn’t meet the direct deposit requirement. I had multiple direct deposits from Amazon FBA, but they said that it is considered a “transfer” instead of a DD. I emailed in a few weeks ago to check on the status, and a different rep had told me that I met the requirements for the promotion…now this rep said I do not. CFPB here I comeeeee…
they just did the same to me! did u get it solved? in my case they said I was short for 50usd (I suposed to
have received dd totalling 4k n I got 3950usd), the next inlet in the account was the amazon payout for over 7k n even when it says “Deposit” the exact same as all the earlier deposits totalling 3950 now they r saying that is not a DD but a ACH, I call that BS to not paying me my 400usd bonus, how did u go about that? regards…
US Bank came through. I got the $150 checking bonus on the Gold Checking offer. I opened the flexperks card during the Olympics bonus, completed the spend, and got the 20k points plus the Olympics bonus points.
Then, surprisingly enough, I received the $50 statement credit on the flexperks card 3 days ago.
So, all bonuses paid out. Seems the credit card bonuses don’t invalidate the $50 bonus offer.
Now I’ve just got to figure out how to find flights that cost just below $400.
Thanks DoC!
I opened a checking account under the $150 bonus deal (got the bonus) and then later opened a FlexPerks visa under the Olympics Promo, not expecting to be eligible for the $50 credit since I was applying using the Olympics links and the general thinking is double dipping on signup bonuses wouldn’t occur.
I got the 14,800 Olympics Bonus points on the FlexPerks Visa last month (its wasn’t tied to spending, just opening the account) and have been expecting to get the standard 20,000 pt signup bonus (I passed the $2K spend requirement in this, my current billing period) when my statement closes on December 19.
Today I got a $50 statement credit on this FlexPerks Visa, and the only thing I can think it relates to is the Checking/CC signup bonus promo, which I wasn’t expecting to get.
My only fear now is that this will somehow affect my 20K FlexPerks bonus that I am expecting in 6 days for 2 reasons: 1) can I get both bonuses? I hope so since I already got the Olympics portion of my FlexPerks bonus, and 2) the $50 bonus credited to my account has brought be below $2000 in total spend … IF it affects how they count total spend.
Feeling like I need to spend another $44 to get back up above $2K for this Visa when considering the $50 bonus.
