[Expired] U.S. Bank Cash+: $250 Sign Up Bonus After $1,000 In Spend

Update 8/13/24: back down to $200 now

Update 8/2/24: Bonus increased to $250 with the same $1,000 spend requirement.

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • U.S. Bank is currently offering a sign up bonus of $200 when you spend $1,000 or more within the first 90 days of account opening on the Cash+ card.

Card Details

  • No annual fee
  • You can choose two categories to earn 5% in (limit $2,000 in spend per quarter), one category to earn 2% in one and 1% on all other purchases

Our Verdict

Previously the best offer was $200, but required $500 in spend. This requires a little more spend but that shouldn’t be a huge issue due to the 5% categories. Unfortunately getting approved for U.S. bank cards can be difficult so you might want to apply for the  the U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve card instead.

FYI, I’ve had this and other US Bank cards for a while…they very recently devalued the “points” when redeemed for a statement credit…it used to be 2,500 points = $25, now it’s 3,333 points = $25. That’s a 33+% devaluation!

The only way to get the old points rate is to get a deposit into a US Bank checking account…and we’ll see how long that lasts.

This and other USB cards are moving to the bottom of my list….

I haven’t noticed that so it doesn’t actually give you 5% back on utilities/phone/internet anymore?

5% back on two selected categories still exists.

*le sigh*

5% isn’t really 5% if they devalue it by 33%, now is it?

With that said, I can confirm that at least for now, this only affects the Altitude GO card (I don’t have an Altitude Connect anymore), and not the Cash+, nor the Triple Cash Biz card. They all use the same rewards portal so I’m surprised by the (unannounced) change.

So, Cash+ is still my go-to card for utility and internet service payments.

I got a targeted offer for this card – $200 bonus with only $500 spend. Also includes 0% APR for 15 months for purchases and balance transfers.

P3 got the SUB in 2022 and again in June 2024. I see now in the small print that “Existing and previous cash rewards accounts do not qualify for this one time bonus.” Is this new language? Has anyone gotten this bonus again recently after having gotten it before?

Got another email offer on this card…

Earn $10 cash back when you pay two or more streaming service bills with your U.S. Bank Cash+® Visa Signature® Card by January 15, 2025.¹

If Hulu does another Black Friday deal, this will be profitable.

I ran my first two Hulu payments through this card and then switched them over to US Bank Altitude Go for the $15 credit after 11 autopayments.

I got a $250 offer in my email for opening a new checking account, so looks like it’s still floating around as a targeted offer

I take it there is no tracker for the bonus or any confirmation that it SUB is tied to your account?

Update: There is. After a couple of days of my account having some technical issue, and then finally clearing up, there was a tracker for the bonus.
