Card Details

  • Card earns at following rates:
    • 2x miles per $1 spent on all Korean Air ticket, gas & hotel purchases
    • 1x mile per $1 spent on all purchases

Our Verdict

This card recently underwent some changes, including increasing the annual fee to $95 (from $80). Looks like this increased bonus is as a result of that. Chase recently lose Korean Air as a transfer partner, so this is one way to get those miles now. It’s worth noting we’ve seen much higher targeted bonuses in the past:

U.S. Bank is also strict when it comes to approving new cards. Because of that I’d think that most people would be more interested in signing up for the U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve.  As always read these things everybody should know about U.S. Bank credit cards before applying.

The targeted offers are great as long as you eventually get targeted! lol it’s been many years and no love for me! It’s an improvement over where the bonus has been lately on this one – IIRC as low as 10K or maybe 5K? With UR gone, if one is shut off from Starriott cards right now, this is about the only option for a bonus infusion to Skypass if needed.

I’d love to see the stupid premium version of this card increase its bonus to something buzzworthy. Not going to hold my breath though!

Got one for 50K earlier this year, would love another one as they’re great to get to Hawaii for 25K RT, but 30K seems too low especially with the $95 fee.

This is a pretty bad card, tons of better alternatives out there, i.e. Marriott, Altitude.

With Marriott now being the only reasonable option to top off these accounts (Hyatt transfers at terrible rate), these offers are not so appealing anymore.
I would get the card if the bonus was 50k… other than that there is no point.

What do you mean by Hyatt transfers at a terrible rate? Chase does 1:1 for Hyatt.

You can transfer Hyatt points to Skypass miles, however the rate isn’t very good…I think something like 2:1 but not positive.

Am I missing something? Marriott is 3:1 isn’t it?

Yes but if you transfer in 60K blocks you end up with 25K airline miles. Given that old SPG points converted 1:3 to Marriott points, it’s essentially the same 1:1.25 ratio as when you used to convert SPG to airline miles in 20K blocks.

The transfer ratios were preserved but the points are now harder to earn. The new SPG cards earn 2x on all spend. That’s equivalent to 0.66 points per dollar spent under the old program. This USB card, as crappy as it is, still earns 1 point per dollar. I don’t see how the Marriott program is better for you unless you only have category spending.
