Update 2:06 pm ET: Seems like a lot of accounts have now been restored automatically, might still be some people affected, though.
Original Post:
Currently a lot of Uber issues are experiencing an issue where their accounts are disabled. This seems to be affecting people with Uber cash funds that add gift cards to their account. Uber is then asking users for their most recent gift card purchase details. My gut reaction to this was that accounts that have been disabled have purchased gift cards that were used fraudulently but a long time reader had their account shut down and their gift card purchases were directly from Amazon.
Some accounts have been shut down with huge Uber cash balances (e.g $1,400, $600). This might seem unusual to some people but if you’re using Uber for daily transit or UberEats frequently then I can understand why you’d have such a big balance. At this stage I’d recommend against buying Uber gift cards until this issue is resolved.
My email told me I have 2 $10 promos added to my account and they show in the “Promos”. But when I set up an Uber ride, I don’t see the discount applied. I haven’t actually ordered the ride, I’ve only gotten to the screen with price estimate. In the past, that screen would show the discount but it’s not doing that now. How are you guys seeing your promos applied?
This happened to me as well, but I went through with a ride and it still didn’t work. Uber support has been useless and has either responded with 1) the promo you tried to use was restricted to zones and you were not in one, 2) this is a known issue and we’re looking into it, 3) sorry, but your promo credit was only valid in CA…my ride was in CA. Really frustrating response.
My account was also disabled (could not request rides), and I never reached out to support. I never received any credits or promos because of the issue, however. Anyone else in the same boat?
Yeah, good. Ok. In their defense, it’s listing as a true $10 credit on two rides. Not some half-assed “Up to $10 off at xx%” nonsense Uber now usually issue as a promo.
Mine they simply added to Uber Cash balance so I expect it will be automatically used along with now restored balance on the next ride.

+1. I think it’s a reasonable response to a technical glitch. Matter closed as far as I’m concerned.
If you do not plan to use your remaining AMEX credit on the last day, yes.
Agreed, but I think my gift card purchasing days are over. Made me realize how fragile those balances are.
Just got the following message through the app and my account has been restored:
Thank you for reaching out to support. Within the last 24 hours, an operational error resulted in a temporary loss of account access for a small number of customers. All impacted accounts have since been restored, so we are resolving your inquiry. If your issue was unrelated to account access, please feel free to respond and we would be happy to help further.
Reliable access is at the heart of our platform, and we regret any inconvenience caused by this interruption.
Something similar happened about 4 months ago whereby the cash balances disappeared for a few hours . However, accounts were not disabled. Thousands of accounts were impacted. Despite what they are saying, I think it’s just a system issue and they just don’t want to admit it. I thought I was fine today as I want initially locked out but then I noticed it said no rides available and eventually that is how I knew my account got suspended . I didn’t get the account disabled message until hours later but I also noticed I could no longer log in outside of the app through the website so I knew I was impacted.
It took a while for all my prior GC history to be available once my service got installed but that eventually got restored too.
Should be fully restored. Check your app. I’m able to see all my Uber cash related transactions.
Mine was disabled for at least 1 day. I loaded $100 ($95 with the discount) three times back in December 2019 directly from the Uber App.
My account has been restored as well, but I am missing one of my two Uber rewards. One was sent expired today and I was going to redeem it yesterday when I found out about the account issue. When I got access again today, it was gone. The other thing I notice is that I can no longer see details of the gift card balance. Recently, I could see how much each load was, $100, $25; today I can just see the balance but not individual loads.
Same here, like the other Kevin posting, I got my account back (no email / explanation and nothing on twitter even so much as acknowledging the issue), but one of my rewards has poofed.
I’m not using this service beyond the $15 plat + the remaining gift card balance; with Lyft Pass from Chase (and DoorDash), it’s just superior every way more or less now, even if I would otherwise have had Uber Diamond.
