Uber, Marriott Partnership: Get Up To 20,000 Marriott Points For Booking Rides In Advance

The Offer

No direct link

Uber partnered with Marriott to offer Marriott points when linking accounts and taking Uber rides. See more details in our previous post on this offer. They’ve also offered incentives for the initial linking of accounts. Previously we’ve seen as high as 3,000 points, though currently it’s down to 1,000.

They’ve now added a few other earning opportunities. These opportunities are even for those who have already linked their accounts:

  • Link your email account to Uber Travel and earn 2,000 bonus points if you do that by September 30, 2023. (Find this option in the Travel tab in the Uber app.)
  • Then you can earn 4,000 bonus points by scheduling an Uber ride in advance (called ‘Uber Reserve’) through Uber Travel.
  • You can repeat this four times for a total of 16,000 points total.
  • If you complete all four, you’ll then get an extra 2,000 bonus points for doing all four.

Our Verdict

Should be easy enough to book some trips in advance. Feel free to share your experiences in the comments below. Some have expressed privacy concerns with giving Uber access to all emails. Others have noted that book-in-advance is more expensive, so you might want to do it for this deal only on a cheap ride.

Did anyone actually received points for this promo? I am still waiting on 2000 Marriott points for linking my email to Uber Travel.

Ha!
Uber reserve is not available in my area.
Big reason I do not use UBER to get to the airport. I need to be certain they will show up so no advance booking is a disqualifier.

Anyone have an official offer page link for this ? linked gmail and haven’t seen this offer anywhere on the app. having a screen shot of a link to track these points when they never post would be helpful

Totally agree. I have seen this posted on another miles blog as well, without good documentation.

Despite not seeing the offer in app, I did the steps (Marriott account was already linked) and booked one ride with Uber Travel. Today, instead of 4,000 Marriott points, I saw… a $3 credit in my Uber app.

I would not have given Uber access to my emails for $3.

Does the linked email account have to be the one your account is registered under, or can it be a junk account you created for this express purpose?

Here is my opinion :
1. Booking in advance always appear to be much more expensive for similar trip!
2. Uber will scan ALL YOUR EMAILS!
3. Not enough points!
So 2000 Marriott points for $30, not a good deal

It is up to 20000 points, not 2k. And its 4k per advance booking, not 2k. Not sure where the $30 came from

I dont understand how Uber will read your emails. The company does not have your password and most accounts now even have 2FA enabled even if Uber has your password.

That being said, I’m pretty sure that the rates for these Uber rides will be more than normal. That is what I learned when I booked using Lyft and linked my 10x Link points Chase Sapphire Reserve card with it and saw super expensive rates. I just used Uber for my entire trip instead and got the normal rates without the added 10X Lyft points.

It is done using the AwardWallet API. You are giving them authorization that wouldn’t require they save your password or require any MFA code:

“Uber has partnered with AwardWallet to import travel-related emails only. AwardWallet’s email-parsing API identifies travel-related emails by looking for specific data points associated with travel booking confirmations, such as airline names, airport codes, departure and arrival dates, and more. Only those emails that meet flight, hotel, car rental, and other travel-specific confirmation parameters are flagged for import to Uber. Uber does not have access to any other non-travel-related emails.”

Good info. False positive rate will be very high as it will be keyword matching that triggers this. Inadvertently harvested data will still be mined. They can afford to give up points as the marketing data from mining emails will be worth more.

Foolish to give up access to personal information to a company that’s barely profitable — burning tens of billions — looking for new monetization schemes

Is there any confirmation of enrollment? Linked gmail and nothing popped up… saying 10% back on the reserve portion but nothing about Bonvoy points for linking or reserving?
