Uber has a rewards program called simply ‘Uber Rewards‘. The standard redemption option was 500 points for $5 in Uber cash, then last December Uber added new redemption options such as 15% off your next Uber ride. Unfortunately Uber has sent out an e-mail to rewards members stating that this is the last rewards cycle you’ll be able to redeem 500 points for $5 in Uber cash. This rewards program wasn’t particularly rewarding before, but it has arguably become even worse.
Hat tip to TPG
Wow, I didn’t think they could make it worse. Doesn’t matter though, lyft exclusive at this point since CSR is crushing everything amex offers
The Barclay Uber Visa credit card pays 3% in rewards on purchases from restaurants (even fast food places). The rewards were, up until a few months ago, redeemable, dollar for dollar, in cash back. Now, you have to transfer the ‘cash’ earned to your Uber rewards account. Then you can use it for Uber Eats.
The catch is this: You can only place an order from a local restaurant that uses Uber Eats. The Uber eats phone app, and web version has an option for pickup at many of these restaurants. However, I’ve noticed there can be as much as a 20% mark up in the price when ordering through the Uber eats app/website, instead of the restaurants own website, even for pickup. Oddly, there is one place in our town where the Uber Eats app/website is actually 10% cheaper than the restaurants own online menu. It pays to check!
The Uber card is not an alternative to Uber Rewards. Uber Rewards is stackable with any credit card rewards.
Plus, Barclays Uber card earns 5% on Uber Eats now.
It was a fantastic card, it was. Not so attractive now. There are many cards providing 3+%CB or equivalent points on restaurant category.
For Uber/eats, Uber GC are sold at groceries and Amazon, both have much better discounts than 5% in Uber GC.
💩
I almost never selected the $5 reward option as the 30% off Ubereats are way better value, $7 off ride too. The only reason I could think of why people would select the $5 is that they don’t use the service often so they select an option that would not expire。
“The only reason I could think of why people would select the $5 is that they don’t use the service often so they select an option that would not expire”
Not at all. Most of these percent off offers had to be applied to the next order/ride. If you weren’t certain you’d be spending enough for that next ride you wouldn’t come out ahead.
My current offers in the cycle are for 15% off the next UberX ride or 15% off my next Uber eats, max of $7.
If my next ride or eats order is under $33.33 I’m worse off than having taken the cash. I’m only doing better if it’s above $33.33, and even then it’s only better by $2 once we’re above $46.66.
Living in Boston, most rides around town were around $8-$15. Rides to the airport could be around $30, but often it was lower and sometimes it was higher. Taking $5 was the smarter option 99% of the time.
Uber really sucks now, bad customer service and don’t give a shoot about anything now….monopoly soon or later…
Was there ever a time they had good customer service?
Yes. When they just started.
it actually was really great a few years ago. I was referring a ton of people (worked at an app and had my referral code in the app) and CS was fantastic. I’d say around 2015 or so it went from great to ok to awful in a matter of months.
Can’t say about the rides, but Ubereats has the best and most convenient customer service of all the delivery apps I’ve used (doordash, grubhub, etc.).
Too bad. I choose the $5 cash every single time.
Aside from phone insurance, is there any benefit to this card left? Damn
This isnt related to the Barclays Uber card, this is Uber’s loyalty program
uber rewards is for using uber/ubereats … not for the credit card.
Derp. Thanks
