UberEats Testing New ‘Eat-In’ Option

According to Eater UberEats is testing a new feature that allows you to order food and then eat the food in restaurant. Apparently this pilot program has been running since November in the following cities:  Dallas, Austin, Tucson, and San Diego. Restaurants are still charged a fee, but this is less than the delivery option. This could also be one reason why UberEats has moved away from delivery fees and instead charges a service fee.

I’m not sure why I would want to use UberEats to dine in, especially as prices can be higher than from the restaurant directly and UberEats does charge additional fees. I guess if you’re using a promo code or the Platinum credit it could make sense though.

I think it’s a joke that uber eats has that feature they should just stick to being a delivery service most people after A Hard Day’s Work don’t really want to go to a restaurant they want to order food from the comfort of their home and have it delivered so let me get this straight if you preorder your food at a restaurant what happens if the food’s not ready you still have to wait now you’re out of the comfort of your home in a restaurant and you’re still waiting for your food what a joke

This could work if “dine-in” really means “pre-order” and the food is already cooked and ready to be served at the time indicated in the app. I’d personally be willing to pay a bit extra (let’s say up to 10%) to skip the line and the wait times, if indeed that’s how they’re trying to shape their dine-in option.

Otherwise this is just topkek

i guess if someone gonna spend more for the same food, at least s/he can walk a bit to remove a few calories with this dine in option.

This is indeed helpful for those of us with platinum credits, but I’m confused what service they are providing for everybody else?

I see a feature called Pickup in-app now. “Eat on your terms” lol. In Philadelphia

grubhub has been using that feature for a long time…it helps drive consumers via a popular platform and saved payment methods and Great ui means i find it easier to use

Yup that is the very feature that makes the gold card’s pathetic $10 credit meaningful for many people.

If you would have called/when in to order a take out anyway, using grubhub is not too much trouble on top of that and they charge you no fee in ‘take out’ mode.

Maybe UE also charges the customer no fee for ‘eat in’?

Wonderful! I normally burn the Platinum credit via pick-up orders, but dine-in would be great so the food is fresh and warm. I know restaurants hate Uber and Grubhub and all those services because of the cut they take but… gotta use those credits.

I had wished for this feature the few times when I, in draining the Platinum credits, used UberEats to deliver food from a restaurant 1/2 block from my home. I could have beaten any Uber driver to the food, but still had to wait for some halfway terrible driver to endure 3 miles of traffic before driving that extra 1/2 block to reach me.

Yeah, I dont always want delivery and am happy to walk the block or so to pick up my food. Also, sometimes I actually do want to eat at the restaurant but also want to avoid the 10-15 minute wait for my food (the line, ordering, paying, cooking etc). Ordering for pick up gets it right away
