Not too amazing. Roundtrip to Amsterdam direct is about $500. Which is pretty low, given that Covid is still a think sorta.

No need to blow 44,000 miles + $200 in taxes to go to Europe.

The $500 flight to Amsterdam is highly dependent on season and where you’re departing from. I’m looking to go to the UK this summer from MIA. The cheapest roundtrip to Amsterdam in June is $923, and that is for basic economy which charges extra for choosing seats and checking bags and is nonrefundable. That brings the total to over $1,000–all nonrefundable, which is very risky given the state of things. And then I’d have to pay more for a flight back to Amsterdam from the UK. Using miles to fly to the UK is nonstop and includes free seat, bag check and is currently totally refundable without any fees(at least on AA). Totally worth $200 in taxes.

Wow that $209 taxes and fees from heathrow is steep, keeping me from buying one.

It’s a pointless promo. If you want to use miles for a UK trip, do an open-jaw into LHR and out of somewhere like DUB (+$45), connected by a $15 Ryanair flight, e.g.

I think he means from LHR to avoid the hefty UK departure fees.

The problem with that is all the stops. Flying nonstop from LHR to my home in MIA costs $200 in fees when using miles. If I were to depart from DUB instead it would involve $45 in fees, plus a cheap Ryanair flight. There are no nonstops from DUB to MIA so I would have to change in PHL. I would wind up saving about $140 but have to change in DUB and change again in PHL. It’s worth paying $140 just to fly nonstop from LHR to MIA.

DC had only layovers for 22k, and long ones. Direct was 30k.

The cheapest outbound one-ways I see are 30k

Should not be paying UK departure fee taxes on one ways to London, these are usually only assessed on the return right?

Correct, and that is what it shows when selecting flights.

Correct. United has flights for 22,000 points each way. Taxes and fees are $5.60 to London and $209 on return segments.

Yes, but it looks like you can only get the 22,000 with a Round Trip purchase. One way looks like it starts at 30K for Saver inventory.
