The Offer

- American & United airlines are a shopping portal bonus. The bonus you receive depends on how much you spend through the portal by 1/21/20 and there are two tiers (you only get the bonus miles from the highest tier):
- Spend $150, earn 500 bonus miles
- Spend $300, earn 1,000 bonus miles
Our Verdict
Alaska also has the same deal, but has to be finished by 1/14. Use cashbackmonitor before making any purchases to ensure you’re getting a good rate.
I never received the 1,000 bonus miles for completing a purchase within 30 days of account creation at AAdvantage Dining. Waited a month and then sent them an e-mail. Turns out my account “wasn’t created correctly” thus the miles never posted. More like they do it on purpose and then hope you don’t contact them. Thankfully they were able to manually add the miles but these types of promotions are really too much hassle.
Yeah, IDK, too. Weak inventory, seemingly inflated prices, bonus amounts to only $5/10 back. I guess if you have a lot of MS to complete or were gonna buy through there anyway…
IDK. Sometimes the airline portal doesn’t register your purchase.
I’ve experienced this too many times with the AA shopping portal. Too many times have I had to contact them about missing miles. In the latest incident, I was told I wouldn’t be awarded miles because the purchased items weren’t in an eligible category even though they were, as reflected by the fact that I was awarded miles in a separate order for one of the exact same items made the same week.
My impression is that the company behind both portals, Cartera, does everything they can to avoid awarding you miles. There’s a thread on FlyerTalk.com (search for “AAdvantage eShopping Cartera questions site:flyertalk.com”) where others have reported their issues.
I suggest avoiding them, or if you need to use them (e.g. for AA mileage activity), keep all receipts of every purchase (and maybe screenshots), set calendar reminders to make sure your miles are awarded, and expect that you’ll have to contact them and go through the hassle of documenting your purchase.
