United TravelBank Credit Can Now Be Purchased For A Friend

United sent out an email that TravelBank credit can now be gifted to family and friends.

You can now gift TravelBank cash to friends and family. we’re making it easy to give the gift of travel this holiday season. Our newest feature allows you to gift TravelBank cash to friends or family — all you need is their MileagePlus® number and last name.

Useful for gifting travel to a friend. This can also be useful for churners bartering their various airline credits: some travel  credits or incidental credits are triggered with United TravelBank credit purchases, and it’s now easier for one person to load the account of another.

A question related to the existing travelBank fund – can I use it to book for someone else?
If the answer is yes, it’s probably still better to pool all the fund in one person’s account.

Will the Hilton Aspire’s revamped airline credit be triggered by the United Travel Bank? The old credit was for “incidentals” but the jew credit is for airfare.

United, please find a way to gift/bank $25 to friends or family. No one is going to buy your expensive tickets unless we accumulate some credits.

This feature is useless for most. It only allows you to buy new credit and gift that to your friend. It does not allow you to send your own credit to anybody.
I have been combining mine and P2s credits in one account for several years anyway. I simply log in to one account and use mine or P2’s cards to load the balance. I even enter my P2’s real name on the card details form. With this feature now live, I will not even change what I was doing all these years.

P1 and P2 each with their own IHG cards.
P1 gifting 50.00 IHG to P2
P2 gifting 50.00 IHG to P1

I’ll give it a try

Doesn’t look like you can gift an existing travel bank balance. Have to purchase travel bank cash and select to gift it.. 🙁

I feel like this is saying you can do new purchases of travelbank and gift to someone else. I can’t find an option to transfer existing travelbank funds to another flyer

This is not new. Already had the option 2 months ago.

Travelbank funds expire don’t they? Would gifting the balance to another person reset that expiration date?

From what I’m seeing it doesn’t apply to funds already in your travel bank. It’s just shows when you go to load TB, then there is an option to put someone else’s MP info in and load their TB instead of yours.
