Lots of us are applying now for the Altitude card. There are three different replies the system is giving:
- Approval (yay!)
- Denial “Thank you for your interest in the U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve Visa Infinite® Card. At this time we are unable to approve your application based on the information you have provided. You will receive additional information on your application request via U.S. Mail in 7-10 business days. Or, you may call 800-654-0648 for more information.”
- Pending “We are unable to provide a decision at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience. You will be notified of a decision by U.S. Mail in 7 to 10 business days.” It then goes on to give an option to get an email notification as well.
Approval
A few things to note:
- A lot of people are getting high credit limits in the $20k-$40k range, but we’ve also seen reported approvals under $10k. It’ll have to be at least $5k like all Visa Infinite cards.
- There have been those who were approved with their ARS and Sagestream reports frozen or unfrozen so that doesn’t seem to be making a difference so far.
- So far, it’s been mostly Transunion pulls, with a couple reports of Experian mixed in. See also Which Credit Bureau does US Bank Pull?
Denial
All reports of Denial that I’ve seen so far are due to the fact that US Bank didn’t recognize them as existing customers, despite them being US Bank credit cardholders who are eligible to apply.
I’m haven’t yet seen someone denied due to credit reasons. They are probably only denying applications manually for now.
This denial response is not resulting in a hard pull, which makes sense being that they simply don’t recognize you as being able to apply.
If you got this response, most people are having success calling the number shown (800-654-0648) and getting them to put in the application for processing. Processing will then take a few days until you get a verdict.
Note: Not everyone who only has a card relationship is getting this reply. It’s not clear why some people’s card relationship’s are being recognized and other’s are not.
Many have noted that it’s possible to apply for the Altitude card from within your US Bank login. I haven’t seen any indication that this helps cross the hurdle of US Bank recognizing you as an existing customer, so probably no reason to bother doing this, but it certainly can’t hurt.
Pending
The pending reply means that they’ll be manually reviewing. It’s not necessarily a bad sign, but there’s certainly a chance of denial.
We haven’t yet heard of many manual approvals; they are making most of us wait a few days as they go through the applications and decide. My application went pending, and the recon rep declined to process the application instantly, stating that I’d have to wait a few days for the manual decision.
Those who got the Pending message are seeing a hard pull already now (mostly Transunion, as noted above).
The US Bank status check and reconsideration numbers are: 800-947-1444 or 800-685-7680. They are open 8am – 8 pm Monday to Friday, 9 am – 6 pm Saturday, closed Sunday. You can call any time for an automated phone status check (option 1 then option 1). Not worth calling in until they render a decision, but in case of denial try reconsideration.
DP: Applied in branch, instant approval with $14K credit line. Business checking with USB for last 18ish months, no other relationship. Had gotten denied last year. 0/6 (but a hard inquiry a week ago), 4/12, 5/24. Seems like 1 year+ of a USB relationship helped, and maybe applying in branch did as well.
DP: Applied online, instant approval with $17k credit line. Personal checking with USB for under 4 months. Had a car loan with them 9 years ago that was paid off early. Going in: TU FICO was 765 or so. 7/24, 1/12, 0/6. No TU hard inquiries in the previous 6 months.
Applied online- instant approval with $10k CL. Held personal checking account for 2+ years with US Bank. 3/24.
Instant approval with $17k CL. Have held a US Bank brokerage account since early 2021, and I also held a US Bank checking account previously (it’s now closed). TU 820 and 2/24.
I got the, “Thank you for applying for the Altitude® Reserve Visa Infinite® Card.
Give us some time to review your application. We may contact you to verify your info or request documents. You’ll certainly hear from us when we’ve reached a decision, which usually takes 7-10 business days.
We appreciate your patience. Thank you for choosing U.S. Bank.”
BUT TODAY I WAS APPROVED! This was the 3rd time I’ve applied for this card in like three years.
“Congratulations, on your new credit card!”
I’ve had zillions of business cards but for my personal…
0/12
2/24 (now 3/24)
799 credit scores ish
Was given $17,000 credit limit.
Have a US Bank checking that I never use and only have .01 in it.
Have a US Bank brokerage account with one share in it.
Have two US Bank business credit cards that are sock drawer cards.
Wasn’t immediately approved, then was denied. Maximum amount of unsecured credit already available and too many revolving accounts. Called reconsideration, awaiting response, not optimistic. Transunion unfrozen, 0/12 7/24, recently downgraded an Altitude Connect to an Altitude Go. TU 810
DP:
had only TU unfrozen got instant decline.
when called, was told need to unfreeze all 3 and call back.
called back next day after unfreezing rest, they pulled EX and told Altitude Reserve requires manual review.
the following day got an approval email.
checking acct few months old. 7/24. lol/36
Instant approval, 12k limit. Held a checking account for a few months, no other USB relationship. 0/12 and 0/6 but two recent hard inquiries. FICO around 750, income around 80k.
Also worth mentioning – the annual fee ($400) counts toward the $4500 SUB, so it’s really $4100 to get 50k points
How did you determine that it counted?
Just applied yesterday. After application I remember seeing some message about verification and clicked something about balance transfer. However, when i called the phone number it can not locate my application nor the account shows in the online account nor did they pull my credit. I just dont want to call for a few days to leave it to its course but is this normal?
Could you share if you were able to locate the app later? Same thing happened with me just now and wondering if I’ll automatically receive card or not? My TU got pulled, but didn’t receive any confimration over email from US Bank.
Applied 9/22/19 (Sunday) online and received an email the next morning with approval. I have a Cash+ and FlexPerks CC as well as a never used checking and savings account. All are 25-28 months old. They pulled TU for Tennessee. My TU report shows 2 inquiries in 6 months and one CC on my report is 5 months old. What I found odd is they asked for my income and profession, but did not ask for my employer.
