Our Verdict
Previously only the $100 bonus was offered. The direct deposit requirements of $20,000 & $30,000 seem insane, but you do have 180 days to meet those requirements I guess. Keeping the accounts fee free (especially for the $600 bonus) is difficult and sadly those requirements can’t bet met with direct deposits (requires minimum balances instead). I’ll add these to the best bank bonuses, but not sure how attractive the bigger bonuses actually are.

William Charles They have a new checking bonus up to $250, offer expires Nov. 1:
https://www.atlanticunionbank.com/personal/checking
DP:
Did $20K each from Ally (posts as P2P) and Capital One (posts as CAPITAL ONE N.A./CAPITALONE) in $5k increments, $5K-10K per month over 5 months, September- January.
Left at least $2500 in place starting in Sept. No activity in Feb or March.
3/12/21 Pending “CREDIT YTD INTERESTCash Bonus Cr / edit” $350
So, Atlantic Union is churnable… if the terms state an account hiatus is allowed. Don’t ask permission, beg forgiveness. IS250 ieatdogfood meed18
William Charles Request counter-DP added to Churnable bank bonus page, Atlantic Union Bank. I had churned them in 2017 & 2018 as well. However, they are marginally Chex inquiry sensitive as they denied my P2 twice, only succeeding to get in once.
The older you get, the more patient you become. Congrats. I plan on doing them later this year if they have a promotion with easier requirements and faster payout.
Added, thanks
1. Chex – Yes, not sensitive. 50+/24. P2 denied for Chex with better numbers over 24 months’ time-frame.
2. No hard pull.
3. Funded $0 because their system sucks. Force to go to a branch, sit in the drive-thru, to submit two forms of ID. Was not allowed to fund once I called back.
Apparently they dropped the ball on approving my account. Called today and the rep says he would ensure they put a rush on it. I asked if I am still enrolled in the promo and he said “I SHOULD BE” since the app was started last week, but I should call back if I don’t see that I am enrolled. Oh really, so how exactly do I verify that in their antique POS system that doesn’t even show me the checking account level?
So, now that I have the account approved, sent an SM asking to verify I am enrolled in the Summer Splash promo. They should be able to screw up my account sufficiently so I don’t get the bonus. Looking forward to 7 months of wasted time & money. ieatdogfood IS250
SM Response: TL/DR: You wasted your time and see you in 6 months.
Thank you for reaching out to Atlantic Union Bank. I am happy to assist you! The last day of the Summer Splash promotion was 8/31/20. All accounts had to be created by the end of business day on that date. I see that your account was officially opened on 9/1/20. I am sorry, but you do not qualify for this promotion.
If you should require further assistance, please chat us or give us a call at 1.800.990.4828 Monday-Friday 7 am-8 pm and Saturday 7 am-5 pm.
Thank you for choosing Atlantic Union Bank,
Assholes!
You’re not going to fight it? This is reminiscent of my SoFi ordeal.
I replied back, explained the situation further, that on Friday I was told to wait for an e-mail that never came. Also, I asked to escalate the issue to a supervisor. However, my fear is that they say… “OK, Mr. Gadget, we understand your frustration but we cannot add the promo because it’s expired, but you can do the requirements and then we will manually post the bonus IAW terms”. I can see that happening. And like I am going to sink $20K of real DD’s to get one $350 bonus?
The other possibility is that the bonus code is attached, the rep doesn’t know what she is talking about, and I didn’t need to ask. If they tell me that the code is there, then I will probably proceed, although that’s a lot of heavy lifting for such a mediocre bonus that still may never payout.
I should have called Monday but I honestly had other stuff going on and forgot about it. Why would I expect them to do their job without additional prompting? On my fifth bank contact now just to get the account open. I applied, called, dropped off ID in person, called, called again, and now up to SM.
After a couple days, they replied saying they were contacting marketing, awaiting response… and then replied back again a few more days later saying that “Good news, that I am enrolled in the promo”.
So, I am still on the fence if I believe them and that I won’t have to have the bonus manually posted. I am about their least motivated customer they could possibly have and will be sure to do the bare minimum and yank that money back each month. Part of me just wants to throw in the towel, but then I will be mad come March/April. ieatdogfood
6 months is a reallly really long time. 2/3 of a baby or an actual one if you get a Pre Me. I haven’t suffered from bank bonus FOMO yet despite doing almost nothing on that front for two months. I’m still sitting on about $1K in pending bonuses to be paid out.
LOL, yeah, my non-paid bonus list is getting lighter by the day… now that Fifth Turd paid out my $250, and I resigned to myself that I cannot get P2 back in without going to COVID Corner FL, or Putrid Village Ohio to show her ID.
But PNC, Chase, and Dollar are coming up… P1 style! I have some more tricks up my sleeve, coming soon.
ieatdogfood IS250 So, several days after my ticket was closed, I get a new response to my ticket. They are saying because I collected a bonus in the past (2018) I am no longer eligible.
Probably going to write this one off as a loss…. good luck for anyone who tried it. Waste of time, two Chex pulls…
First loss in a while? I guess it’s a double edged sword. You didn’t waste six months and we now have confirmation they are not churnable.
Well, it’s a case of leave well enough alone, don’t wait until the last minute to signup. And don’t signup for promos that take 7 months to payout if you think they are going to find a reason not to pay the bonus.
I am probably going to demand we part ways, irreconcilable differences. My cover is blown – abort, abort!
Hmm. Let’s see if they still payout for me. Were you able to close the account without the ETF?
IS250 I sent them a pretty sharply worded response that I want to speak to the person that said I do not qualify when their terms define exactly who is a new customer. In the last two weeks, I have been on a roller coaster with them and it needs to stop. The phone rep said yes, “I should be” enrolled in the promo, SM rep said no, marketing said yes, and now a “senior analyst” said no a week after marketing said yes.
I don’t trust them to give out the bonus to me now, so I will definitely ask for the termination fee to be waived. If they give me grief, I can drop it down to the 1st responder/military account and keep it for 5 months. If I do that, I will put some “DD’s” on it just to see what ends up happening. That would be crappy if it ended up paying out the $100 meaning this was all for nothing. Oddly enough, that outcome would not surprise me. ieatdogfood
Oh yeah, also, I collected the $100 bonus in 2017, & 2018… but I didn’t bring that up.
Same here – disqualified because a previous bonus was received (and this was back when they were Union Bank before the merger). Forgot to post my DP earlier, but was just looking at the Deposit Account Bonus Churn Chart and saw Atlantic Union on there. It needs to be removed. They are apparently not churnable. Not sure if William Charles or Chuck maintains that. Just a heads up guys.
Eventually, they replied to my SM and said I am qualified to earn the bonus. I suspect it won’t payout, but doing it anyway. Unfortunately, I am using simulated DD’s, so I will be screwed when it doesn’t payout.
For me, lessons were learned. This is the problem with asking questions… sometimes you get the Karen rep that wants to dig. It’s better not to wait until the last couple of days to signup for something… that way you can feel better that the code is attached. Mistakes were made.
I guess am being charitable and letting them use my money for 6 months.
I did get the $100 bonus in 2017 & 2018… so they are/were churnable.
IS250 I look forward to seeing your DP of payout so I know when I can give up.
We still have a couple months to go with a payout in March 2021. I’m using a real DD so I can CFPB if needed.
Oh, I know, it’s not “time” yet. I was hoping they would pay early… silly me.
Oh, and if you are talking about the Deposit Account churn chart on my site… that is my own creation. AFAIK nobody was using it and I haven’t been updating it lately.
I know some of the promos Atlantic Union did sound like they were not churnable because I recall being upset by the anti-churn language. That’s why I went for this one, as it had a set minimum timeframe of the prior account.
I would be curious to know which promo you got denied the bonus for, as this one is not scheduled to payout yet.
Gadget - Bank Bonus Geek Haha, I guess I was talking about your google sheets doc. Sorry for giving credit to the wrong person.
It was this bonus
https://www.doctorofcredit.com/va-union-bank-trust-100-checking-bonus/#comment-1092003
and I now I realized I already posted about my misfortune and tagged you. I’m all kinds of discombobulated today I guess.
Yeah, that particular promo had the “and have not previously received a cash bonus” language. This one did not. This is why Mr. Senior analyst stuck his nose in my inquiry because he was likely going off the old terms.
So, the proof will be if this bonus pays out to people like IS250 who used a real DD.
Thanks for letting me know… maybe I will get motivated to update my list, but I will leave Atlantic Union as-is for now.
Thanks, added here: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/a-list-of-churnable-bank-account-bonuses/
They aren’t Atlantic CU. It’s Atlantic Union Bank. And, the jury is still out on churn-ability. The particular promo meed18 is referencing had anti-churn language.
They apparently ended the promotion at the end of the business day, not calendar day, on 08/31. Bummer.
Well, if it makes you feel any better, I applied Thursday, and I still don’t have an account. So, now if they do open it, I get to wonder if the bonus will payout. I might just tell them to cancel the application.
Saw your latest datpoint, what a mess! We apparently need to sign up at least a couple weeks before the next promo expires.
Yeah, I’d say at least a week anyway. Not sure why they are being such a PITA.
Same boat here. Hopefully they’re chronic renewers.
P1 – Called today about my application and got told to go to the branch, just to have them scan/copy ID, then call back. Did that. Called back, and they said to wait for an approval e-mail, and I asked about funding and got told I had to fund later. WTF-ever!
P2 – Recv e-mail the next day that said Subj: Decline ChexSystems. LOL
Two comments –
P1 – Not sure how someone who had a past account can open one without going to a branch. IS250?
Every year it’s a freaking fiasco. Last year they tried to reopen my old account after going to a branch, so I had to go back to the branch again to get it fixed and start a new application again. This year it’s a run-around, and then wait. If they would just delete my profile when I closed my account, pretty sure it would work as designed.
P2 – Chex failure is because I have been pulling my hair out trying to get P2 approved at Fifth Third. I applied for her about 10 times in the last month – kept getting the error “approved, but need to go in branch”. So, that’s why her golden Chex record got ruined. Time to do some disputes and clean up her Chex. They will not process the application but pull the report each time – something is just not right about that. This all started when they closed her CC back in April, which might be attributable to a US Bank/Citi inactivated check fiasco in March. Own worst enemy – yuup.
Pulling Chex tonight and start doing some damage control. ieatdogfood
I wish I had a P2 that did all the work/helped me.
Churning Mingle dot com?
Well, I do all the work, except phone calls and can’t do the in-branch stuff for her.
But yes, the profile would ask your FICO, 5/24 status, favorite CC reward point system, and your biggest haul!
Just pulled Chex, and it was 5 pulls in the last month just on fifth/third. Doh! That’s probably caused the denial.
honestly sounds like a great idea. i’ve seen similar setups online…”in search of ‘roommate’ w nfcu benefits”
I didn’t do anything special so I can’t tell you how or why I got in. PNC on the other hand keeps rejecting me…
Do you recall how you closed your last account? In branch? Did you still have your old online access or did it make you create a new one?
Closed in branch. Reused same login as before. All other information was the same like address email, etc.
Hmmm… weird. Same way I did. I remember, because it was annoying. Banker trying to chat me up, asking all kinds of questions trying to see if she could find something to sell me.
I am ready for some PNC, Chase, & M&T action next month!!!
I saw M&T cracked down on OOS, but hoping I can snake my way in. In-state, but OOF. I will tip-toe…
Is it rejection?
Thank you for your application.
We are reviewing your information, and we’ll contact you shortly to let you know about next steps. You can also follow up by calling our Customer Care Team at 800.990.4828, Option 2. We’re standing by Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Not necessarily. I think it says to go in-branch when they reject you. I would give it a day before calling, but it’s up to you.
So, I got the same error tonight… did they end up approving your account?
No. I received an email “come to our brunch” the next day
I had a feeling that’s what that means… That will exclude my P2… she won’t wanna mess with it.
I do have that kinda time, and I have errands to do near a branch… looks like my schedule just got booked tomorrow or Monday.
Have you had an account with them before?
Seems like if you have had an account in the past you cannot apply online with this bank. That’s my perception anyway, as the only time it worked was when P2 was new.
What sucks is in the branch you cannot fund with a CC (without being hit with a CA fee anyway).
Maybe I will try to apply again with a different e-mail address, for S&G’s.
IS250 Got any hints?
I never had an account in this bank. I don’t have brunch near.
I think that I already applied to this bank or it was something else but I remember this feeling – a bunch of documents emailed before applying – next day rejection.
Hold on… they offered you brunch? LOL
Looks like different e-mail won’t work, it noticed the same mobile number, says to continue the application…. tried anyway, same result as before.
I can apply from my old online banking login, but there there is no promo code attached… and no place to enter one. That sucks.
That’s probably it – I would have to get their stupid tech people to delete the old profile to be able to apply online. Not sure why IS250 was able to get a new account online though…
Declined due to Chex. I’m around 12/12
1. Chex- Yes, not sensitive. 80+/24
2. No hard pull
3. Funded $1,500 (maximum) with Chase Freedom Unlimited (even though the funding source option says ‘debit card’)
4. Instant approval online. This is my second time churning this bank/bonus.
Which bonus level did you choose? Going fake DD until you make it, or real?
I thought about passing on this, but I am starting to have FOMO. I need to check my dates of my last accounts for P2 & I… Thinking at least one of us should try. ieatdogfood and all his negativity, fear of the unknown, is rubbing off on me. He’s whack…
Going for the $350 bonus using real DD’s. 180 days is plenty of time for me to get enough DD’s in.
You know, to obtain baller status, you would have to do the $600 bonus, load up the mega DD’s right away, hope that they pay the bonus early (as they had in the past), then downgrade the account as soon as the puppy hits. (says you have to maintain the account, not necessarily at the same level)
That’s what a really cool friend would have done, then reported back. Too bad I am lacking the balls to do so and that $25K ADB or $25 every month fee is just too much loss to risk.
$350 bonus it is. Alert the media, I’m going in. P2 too. If we can get approved. I want to say last time it gave me an error and I had to go in branch.
Summer splash… that pays out in Spring next year. Doh! Going to run a lot of money through this place! ieatdogfood IS250
I have great faith in you, I have negative faith in me.
I just opened T-Mobile 4% APY today, which probably wasn’t worth the Chex inquiry for no bonus but whatever. I’ll be opening the C1 checking later tonight. I’m looking at BB&T, however I just found out someone in my HH has an active account (what’s your experience or knowledge?). My one month bank bonus hiatus is now over.
BB&T takes forever to pay out… 4 months approx – check DP’s tho, maybe I am exaggerating. And you are stuck with the account for 6 months, and the lowest tier checking has a $1500 ADB requirement or $500 DD/mo IIRC.
Also, their Bill Pay makes you want to throw the computer/phone out the window…. biller addresses never come up and you have to get them manually approved. First-time use is a bitch, and sometimes takes a week to get to the destination after approved. I certainly hope when they merge they keep Suntrust’s BP for those fools that bank there.
I seem to have the worst timing with them… I end up with the $150 bonuses, and other people are getting $300-$600. But, I have been able to churn them about every 18 months as that is what their terms used to state, 12 months from last closing approx. I assume someday soon they will be merged with Suntrust and you won’t be able to collect both.
So, P2 got the same message about “waiting”… so this Atlantic Union thing might not happen. I wonder if they reached/near their cap on the promo, and instead of taking it down, they are only keeping the cream of the crop.
ieatdogfood I did their $600 deal back in Feb. Pretty smooth, 2 months fee-free, paid out right around 90 day mark, stuck me with a $30 fee right after the bonus, I asked for a 1-time waiver, then converted account to the lowest tier checking with a $1500 ADB requirement or $500 ACH/mo, closed after 6 months. DP on $500, make sure it’s ALLY or another back that’s clearly ACH transfers, otherwise will be treated by BB&T as p2p and not counted towards $500 monthly ACH requirement. Gadget - Bank Bonus Geek
Thanks for the DP. I was planning to use Wells Fargo, but my primary issue is the active checking household restriction. I’ll have to do some more digging of older DPs since recent DPs don’t have much info.
I’ve beaten their HH restriction, but my HH also has different last names. Didn’t do the same promo, but accounts did overlap. I put the DP on one of the BB&T DoC pages – too lazy to look it up now.
Gadget - Bank Bonus Geek Planning to obtain baller status on this, need the following info to pull the trigger: 1) how quick is “they pay the bonus early (as they had in the past)” ? 2) fees waived for 1st or 2nd month ? 3) Will they open OOS/OOFP ? My chex are about 24/24, 16/12 IS250 ieatdogfood
Unlikely OOS, unless in person. Looks like I have to go in-branch and I live 3 miles from a branch. Lame sauce. I am probably going to stay at the safe level and do the $350 bonus… but I will test the waters on getting the DD’s done quickly. That will be a good indicator for next time.
Considering the changed terms to specifically call out maintaining the account for 6 months… It probably won’t pay out early. I was just saying that someone else needs to be the guinea pig. 🤯
Gadget - Bank Bonus Geek much obliged
I won’t be of much help for Atlantic Union since I have never done them. I would have much rather got in with one of their earlier promotions, since they were much easier. What prevented me from pulling the trigger last promotion was the Chex sensitive DPs but clearly they are all over the place. Good luck.
ieatdogfood don’t have the data on WF working for the bonus, feel confident WF will work for the $500/m fee-avoiding ACH
yo face. 🤨
@is250 are you local or OOFP ?
solid experience with this bonus.
