Avoiding Fees

Monthly Fees

Bonus checking has no monthly fees to worry about.

Early Account Termination Fee

According to the fee schedule you’ll be charged an early account termination fee of $25 if the account is closed within 180 days of opening.

Our Verdict

Relatively easy bonus to meet the requirements for and no monthly fees to worry about. Considering it’s a soft pull I think this is worth doing if you live in an eligible area and have already done the larger bonuses available to you. Because of that I will be adding this to our list of the best checking bonuses.

    • Yes P1 and P2 were paid this month for accounts opened a few months ago. They both paid out before the 100 day timeframe on around day 93-94. This was our 2nd or 3rd churn. Will close at 180 days and then wait for the next one.

  • OOS info: went through whole process of setting up account with them, passed through a couple instances of sharing my address, but on the 3rd time I finally got blocked with an "Out of service area" message.

  • is this no longer available to MO residents? I still see a couple KC area branches in their site. although they do appear to be on the KS side.

  • DP
    1/13/20 Opened Journey Checking account.
1/21/20 ACH push $2501 from Discover Saving, recorded as P2P.
4/14/20 $150 bonus posted. 92 days from account opening. Deal terms said by 100 days.

  • I thought this would be dead but the bonus posted!!

    1/15/20 - Opened
    1/30/20 - Discover ACH of $2500.99
    4/15/20 - Bonus $150 posted

  • Does anyone have recent successful DP's for this bank? Both of my test transfers coded as P2P and both set up with recurring transfer.

    01/23/2020 DISCOVER BANK P2P ************* $2.5K
    01/22/2020 ALLY BANK P2P ************* $2.5K

    • I did a successful true employer DD last year with no issues. I opened up account for P2 and did a Discover ACH on 1/30 and am still waiting as well.

It showed as DISCOVER BANK P2P as well.

      • *Sent a secure message asking where is the bonus it's been 70 days. This is the response.*

I did hear back from my back offices that the $150 Direct Deposit bonus will credit your account after 90 days of the account being opened. Once it hits the 90 day mark, it is credited within 10 days. Your account was opened January 14th, so we are just at that 90 window, so within the next 10 days is when that bonus will credit your account. Those external transfers did count as a ‘direct deposit’, so I apologize for the confusion on my part.

    • I had an email that showed you how to check the application status. I went into that after confirming I was approved and it displayed.
