haven’t dealt with Vanilla since a long time ago; recently picked up in stop&shop with fuel rewards promotion. Do these still act as debit cards with the last four digits as a pin, similar to MetaBank cards? I think I can redeem them by paying rent in the app called Appfolio paying $9

If placing an order for physical GCs it’s better to do a higher amount for best value.

“Orders equal to or greater than $200 are not eligible for standard shipping.”

Added $5k to cart with the following shipping charge:

Expedited – FedEx
$10.95 3-4 Business Days

Rush – FedEx
$17.95 2-3 Business Days

1) they come inactivated via Fedex 2) do not activate until you are going to use that day: buying, liquidation, paying online utilities etc. I have purchased tons online during promos and had about 8 that were hacked over the past years. 3) I had 12 500.00 VGC from them sitting on my desk for 2 years during the pandemic. Did not do any in person shopping, or liquidating, Used my Amex BCP for online grocery. After the pandemic (if it’s actually gone) I checked all cards, checked the values before going in person. 5 were all drained. And it was Best Buy in Ca. and Amazon. and some west coast gas stations. I live in upstate NY, and they were on my desk all the time. 2500.00 plus
shipping. Vanilla Gift was quite reasonable, I called and had to follow the telephone chain. Terrible. I filled out online form and they mailed me 2530.00 in a check in 15 days. I lost the shipping and but they inc. the card fees. Actually, I bought them w/o fees during a promo a long time ago. Now today, I am waiting for replacement cards. 2 500.00 cards hacked that were purchase in Stop and Shop chain. I am waiting about 2 months. each hacked card has $50.00 left. Just yesterday I called, and both replacements are being mailed this week. 60 days so far. Word of advice, if you are in this hobby, make sure you have enough funds to cover this type of crap. if you are on a shoestring, this hobby of ours is NOT for you.

That’s unfortunate and agree. This isn’t a hobby that is meant to rack an outstanding reward nor for the faint of heart but to supplement as a cherry on top augmenting normal spend. Don’t personal do MO it’s not my method and just annoying.

I always liquidate via organic spend (tax, mortage/rent, utilities, bills, groceries, CC/loans (if allowed), services/fees, advance payments, B&M and other online purchases). Always save receipts, check balances, register and change pin prior to spend. Never buy more than you can liquidate for more than 1-2 weeks at a time. There’s always a GC sale or promo every week somewhere, so if you are patience enough just wait for it.

Those that pursue MS and hit it hard (seen firsthand inexperienced individuals at WM and grocery chains attempting the MO route) get burn thinking it’s easy $$.

Only wish that additionally these GC companies enable “lock/unlock card” option same as some banks and CCs do currently as an addon feature.

We “get burn”? I would like to learn more about this

Someone may buy way more than they can float.

You do that and the only place you know that allows MO with GC puts in a policy against it, or registers get hardcoded, the manager singles you out for ‘no more MO’, etc.

So something goes wrong and you’re left holding lots of GC and credit card interest costs money until you cover the float or you use it organically.

That’s what I think Tikky meant, not like WalMart loss prevention will bounce you off the floor or the US financial system will blacklist you or anything like that.

There are so many bad reviews here or consumeraffairs or trustpilot on those (vanilla or giftcards.com) so why promoting it on DOC? What is the real deal on this? Is it legit and works, or is it just troubles? Thanks

they work. Only small % are hacked according to my purchases over the years. See above post. But you need a CCard that pays at least 3% everywhere for it to be worth it. I don’t use miles, just cash back. I use Santander 3%, but it has a max spend for the first year. Also Discover Miles works for the 3% everywhere also. First year only. The Miles card is churnable.

but only buy online when they have the fee free promo like now. If you have the correct cards, the Vanilla cards for 500.00 in CVS and groceries are great, but some problems in the northeast at Stopandshop stores. Probably temporary. They also sell other 500.00 cards that are great too, not vanilla cards.
