Verizon To Partner With Synchrony On Co-Branded Credit Card

Verizon and Synchrony announced yesterday the launch of a new co-branded credit card for Verizon customers. The card is expected to launch in the first half of 2020.

Press Release

No details are known yet on the rewards/perks structure of the card. It’s unlikely to be too useful for many of us who earn 5x Ultimate Rewards points on Verizon payments with the Chase INK Cash/Plus card, but we’ll have to wait to find out the details.

I never want a Synchrony card again. Over the weekend I joined the ranks of people with decent credit, 100% payment record, and who Synchrony zapped all credit cards in one sweep. Just wait till it happens to you. Amazon, bye. JC Penney, bye. QVC, bye. Lowes, bye. All they would say on the other end is “it was most likely reevaluated.” Considering I have gotten regular credit line increases in recent weeks, I fail to see how I’m suddenly such a credit risk. I didn’t even lose my job or ask for COVID relief.

2 companies with the same purpose, maximizing profits and providing poor customer service. This is a textbook example of synergy, bravo

Do you know if you can have autopay for Verizon fios and still get 5x on the ink business cash? I have wireless and fios so I just want to make sure I’m maximizing as best as possible.

I am a Verizon Fios customer. Copper phone line’s are abandoned. The competition constantly wants me to switch to them. The advertising I got in the mail yesterday said the competition will save me over fifty percent.

How will this credit card help me? A lot of my neighbors dropped Verizon.

You can no longer earn 5x Ultimate Rewards points on Verizon payments with the Chase INK Cash/Plus card if you want to keep the autopay discount.

Yes you do, keep autopay enabled and then pay early with the ink. You keep the discount and earn the UR

No, you do not keep the discount.

This no longer works and hasn’t for months. If you pay early your next bill gets hit with a charge. Super annoying…

You can still set up an autopay with checking account but pay in advance each month with a credit card.

You will not receive the autopay discount that way. There’s even a warning when you try.

From personal experience, I was able to get away with it a couple times by pushing through the warning sign but then they eventually dropped the hammer and removed the autopay discount. I feigned innocence (saying I thought I just had to establish autopay for the discount), and they credited me back the discount. Not gonna try again.

Does anyone know if the Autopay discount is only available on “unlimited” Verizon plans? Or do all have plans have this feature? (I have a data package plan and have never heard of this discount) Many thanks in advance for everyone’s help!

Per Verizon autopay FAQ: if you pay with cc in advance of a checking/debit automatic payment, the discount will be added as a charge on your next bill.

… and it isn’t just a warning shot either. I prepaid my Verizon bill when the Amex Offer “$100 off $500 at Verizon“ came about, and I got charged the $15 ($5 per line) adjustment each month thereafter. I was able to work some magic with a cooperative CSR to get the $15 back, but it wasn’t easy.

I hate the auto withdraw from checking (except car loan since the amount is almost fixed). The same tactics as gym membership. T-mobile allow autopay with CC.

1) Go to verizon store and buy Verizon GC using your Chase Ink Cash/Plus card
2) Walk to the kiosk in the store and pay your bill using the just purchased verizon GC.
3) Voila. No penalty.

This works! Have tried it.

Verizon GCs do not code at 5x.

I was doing this, but when I try to make credit card payments now a box pops up that says “you’ll lose your auto pay discount if you make this payment.” Am I missing something?

You can buy Verizon GCs from verizonwireless and pay any Verizon bill, you still get the discount.

That said Verizon is terrible with GCs from online…I have $500 in GCs that came inactivated and have spent hours being bounced around to get it resolved. In store may be better…but keep that in mind.

I signed up for the connexus bank account you get a bonus for using your debt card.
https://www.doctorofcredit.com/connexus-credit-union-250-checking-bonus-direct-deposit-not-required/
offer recently expired (RIP). Also I will get visa/mastercard gift cards fee free from office supply stores for x5 ink points and use them to pay Verizon. I confirmed with CRS that visa/mastercard gift card code as debt cards. These fixes are not as easy as just paying VZ with the ink card.
