[Update: Payment] Verizon Wireless Postpaid Class Action Settlement (Up To $100 Payment)

Update 1/6/25: Payments are going out today. Thus far we’re hearing them in the $5-$15 range.

Verizon Class Settlement

Class Settlement Link | File A Claim Here (note: you need a personal code to file; check email for subject line: Notice of Verizon Class Action Settlement)

Verizon customers claimed in a class action lawsuit that Verizon has charged its post-paid individual consumer wireless service account holders a monthly “Administrative Charge” or “Telco Recovery Charge” that was unfair and not adequately disclosed. Verizon has denied that the lawsuit has any merit. The customers and Verizon have reached a proposed settlement to resolve the lawsuit on a class action basis, as described below.

If the settlement is approved and becomes final, Verizon will pay $100 million into a Settlement Fund. If you file a claim by the deadline and are eligible for a payment, your payment may be up to $100 for your account. The final amount may be lower depending on how long you were a Verizon subscriber and how many Settlement Class Members file valid claims.

Also as part of this settlement, Verizon will amend its Customer Agreement to include revised Administrative Charge disclosures.

Important Dates

  • Must file a claim by April 15, 2024
  • From January 1, 2016 through November 8, 2023 is the timeframe the lawsuit covers; anyone who was a postpaid Verizon customer during that time should be able to file a claim

Our Verdict

There is a chance at up to $100 on this one. I always assume it’ll end up being much less, but we have seen a few times when readers ended up getting paid handsomely on similar deals, presumably due to low volume of claims.

$8 for my P2. She was with Verizon many years, but we left when DoC posted a Sprint “one-year free” deal in 2019 and never looked back.

No email notification. Discovered the payment in PayPal, so you have to check your payment service of choice yourself.

How payments were calculated:

If you file a valid claim by the deadline and are eligible for a payment, your payment may be up to $100.00 for your account, but the final amount may be lower depending on how long you were a Verizon subscriber and how many Settlement Class Members file valid claims. Specifically, there will be an initial minimum allocated amount of $15.00 for your account plus $1.00 for each month your account received postpaid wireless or data services from Verizon and was charged and paid an Administrative Charge and/or an Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge between January 1, 2016 and the date of the Settlement Agreement (2023?), up to a maximum initial allocated amount of $100.00. If the Settlement Fund is not sufficient to pay all the filed valid claims after deducting any Court-approved amounts for the cost of settlement administration, attorneys’ fees and costs, and incentive awards to the class representatives, then the payments made to the Settlement Class Members who filed valid claims will be decreased from the initial allocated amount on a pro-rata basis.

Obviously they ran out of funds….
