One of my local WMs had a boatload of them. Using my Chase FF with the current 5% category of WM (yes, in-store) will, essentially, knock off another buck. Take care at check out, if you purchase in-store. 3 distinct barcodes, and one QR code are tightly clustered. I had to use both hands and carefully block all but the pricing UPC code. The second barcode is probably some sort of internal Google thing, while the 3rd is the actual serial number for the unit. Once you’ve scanned the UPC, it then asks for the serial #. You can either type it in, or carefully scan just the serial # barcode. I picked up 3 and, fortunately, was not hindered by any sort of limit, via the self checkout. The display didn’t mention limits, but I still half expected to run into problems at the POS. I did notice when picking them up, that all the Onn streamers were sold out. When available, they’re great devices (except for the remote issues with the 4K box) at $9.98 (2K stick) and $19.98 (4K box). For those looking for expandability on the Chromecast w/Google TV, even Google admits it can be done with a USB-C hub. They’ve got a page on their website with the details, although I’m guessing the process is pretty intuitive for the vast majority of DoC readers. I’d choose the Google or the Onn over a Firestick, every time.
Hilarious you mention the remote. My remote just went out and I was thinking of buying this just for the remote.
You can get the same deal direct from Google. I was sent an email to buy directly from Google for this model and the better model. Can use PayPal and still use the Chase Freedom 5X Q4 2022 categories.
FYI: The Onn Box available at Walmart for $20 is a far superior device. It does 4K and you can connect a OTG USB adapter to it (costs around $5) to play media from Flash Drives/external hard drives.
The Onn 4k is nice, but beware of remote control connectivity issues because the bluetooth chip heats up. It also has no warranty, so you’re stuck with it past the return window.
Agreed. I have both the Onn 4k and 2k….eventually there was constant remote grief with the 4k. The 2k at around $15 is the best I’ve seen at that price point, and no Walmart or Google bloat, to speak of. I’ve been using it for over a year without it missing a step. Even my Nvidia Shield is sometimes more annoying than the Onn 2k. Sad to hear the 4k still has the remote issue, more than a year later.
Notably this is the HD version.
4k model is $40 instead of regular $50
Hoping that improves on BF.
4k sucks up the 1.2 tb Comcast limit really quickly.
