hi  William Charles is there any way we could have a post dedicated to datapoints on this card? I just got it with decent credit line and 12 months interest free. That allows for some experimentation because the float effectively increases the cash back rate. I heard Ikon pass counts for 4%. If people would post specifically what does and doesn’t get them 4% it could be useful (with merchant, how it coded, what was purchased).

All right. I have it now and will experiment with it. Epic or Ikon pass is a significant annual expense for some people. If we had an organized list of successful 4% items, the card could become more valuable to more people. I will do my part by being a guinea pig. Thanks for the response, it’s appreciated.

Sounds good. Mixed so far.

Payment toward purchasing a hot tub and med spa payments did not give 4%

OTOH ski lesson coded for 4%

Has anybody confirmed that the 4% bookstore category applies to Amazon? I’ll be the data point if I need to but curious if anybody knows

If i have this card and has 3% FTF fee i still use it just to get the exchange of points and transfer to one of the airlines that CC autograph has so its still pay 3% FTF and get the 3% back for the points so still win win for me.

Not sure what you need to get approved for this card… with a debt to credit ratio of under 10% and debt to income ratio of under 0.5% I got rejected, And not that it would matter since it’s not Chase, at 3/24.

WF is a weird lender. Kinda like Cap1. Abstract denial reasons that don’t make sense such as too much debt on credit cards but what they actually mean is something like either too much available credit or not enough credit used. You can have 850 scores and get denied for their cards as many people I know have been and myself included being 840 in the past. They seem to like two type of people ones that have been with them for quite some time and other cards are easy to get approved for after or ones that carry balances and not a ton of credit. Just my 2 cents will not waste a HP on this card as likely would be a denial due to too much available credit although only carry any given time few hundred in balance across approx 1 mill in available credit. Not all lenders are for everyone unfortunately but with a strong profile many other lenders will gladly take you.

I got insta approved for a pretty big credit limit given my current income. I suspect the ease was due to taking advantage of the Premier checking bonus last year and holding significant assets at Wellstrade. The $2500 bonus was also very appreciated so I decided to stick around for a while. They also let me keep money in wmpxx, which is not available at many brokerages.

Current credit score 825 but I do expect that will drop as I load up the 0% interest credit line.

Not boring for anyone that has Pets! Almost nothing out there in the Pet category.

Not boring for struggling local dog rescues, or anyone that likes to get massages or haircuts or goto sauna at a spa.

Not boring for anyone with kids that play sports and need expensive sports equipment they grow out of in a year!

Does anyone know if the pet category also cover veterinary expenses?

yes and for those who love snow, Epic and Ikon passes can be substantial expense, especially if they pay for a whole family.

Does anyone know if the 1/6 rule for Wells Fargo includes business cards? I just got the signify a month ago and am considering this card.

I just got Autograph Journey. If cashback from this card is transferable to Autograph, I’m in. A lot of useful categories with unlimited 4x!

Earn 4% cash rewards on purchases like public transit, EV charging stations, and select thrift stores

Once you collect every card under the sun you could basically get 3-5% on everything with no AF cards

if robinhood actually comes out with the gold card, then you would get 3% everywhere as a baseline. Better to get 5% cards and buy visa gift cards to use for everything else that you can’t get 5% on (including purchase fee it comes to 4% back everywhere that accepts prepaid gc)

I can’t find MCC for EV charging stations and for Gyms.
Also it’s not clear what “Other Miscellaneous Services” under pet care is.

This card is actually really good for my spending habits. Considering the only category it would be missing is “online shopping”, this is nearly a perfect card. This destroys the Amex gold card especially being a no annual fee card. Amex needs something like this so I can earn MR with these categories.

Not sure why people are downplaying how great this card is. It’s certainly not just for young people. This fits more of my regular spend that most of my other cards (save for flights with my Amex).

How it destroys Amex Gold? Categories are completely different. Some categories on this card are really interesting though, I’d like to get it.

If you’re using an Amex gold for cashback you have the wrong card.

Is it weird to anyone else that this “World Mastercard” has the highest foreign transaction fee that the industry typically will charge (at 3%)?

I don’t think I have any card (anymore) that charges 3% in foreign transaction fees. I think my highest is my AMEX Blue Cash Everyday card (at 2.7%, if I recall correctly). However, that AMEX card is very specifically a U.S.-focused card with 3% cash back for purchases at “U.S. online retail”, “U.S. supermarkets”, and “U.S. gas stations”. And even then that specifically U.S.-focused AMEX card has a lower FTF than this “World Mastercard”.

Too late to edit-in:

I suppose “World Mastercard” doesn’t really mean what it used to mean anymore (case in point: this specific Wells Fargo card). It used to mean “good for international travel”. I guess it now means “good for gym membership and… pet grooming (… what??? lol)”

What are you going on about? 3% is the standard foreign fee. The complaints about a no-fee card charging a foreign exchange fee is unreal. What difference does 3% vs 2.7% mean? Either way you’re leaving the card at home when you go abroad

Chris
Chris (@guest_1856829)

I gave the example of the AMEX card as my card with the highest foreign transaction fee (just as a comparison). The majority of my no annual fee credit cards are 0% foreign transaction fee. There may or may not be a hidden fee in the exchange rate, but officially I have a ton of no annual fee 0% foreign transaction fee credit cards.

Also: I’m not complaining. It was just an observation. I just thought it was weird and wondered if others thought so as well.

The card also very specifically mentions these merchant examples:

“Eurostar”, “ItaliaRail”, “ Taiwan High Speed Rail”, “RATP (Paris Transport Authority)”, “TfL (Transport for London)”.

These examples are clearly merchants you would transact with outside of the United States (and would be subject to the 3% FTF).

So… it’s a little weird, right? Wells Fargo is mentioning specific merchants in the UK, France, Italy and Taiwan, but charging the (as far as I know) highest FTF percent that the industry will charge.

As you said: “you’re leaving the card at home when you go abroad”. But Wells Fargo still gives specific examples of a number of foreign merchants anyway.

While 0% FTF is becoming more common, most cards globally charge 3%. The term “World Elite” refers to the type of card, like “World Mastercard” or “Visa Signature.”

Including trains in transit is a matter of MCC. They probably list those because there aren’t many well-known trains in the USA. At least you’d be netting 1% cash back on them, though I’d probably leave this card home.

But yeah, odd combination. Also unusual to see a World Elite card with no fee. I wonder if it will come with all the World Elite benefits and protections (more common on $400 annual fee cards).

What cards do you have? I bet you you have more 3% FTF cards than you think. Of my 25 cards, two have an AF and no FTF. I have 23 with no AF and of those 23, 10 have no FTF (mostly C1 and USBank, a Delta Blue, and NavyFederal). Maybe the Prime Rewards card doesn’t count as no AF? The other 13 have a 3% FTF, except one credit union card that is a 1% FTF, and Amex BCE with 2.7%.

Yeah, so I mean of all my cards with a FTF only two are less than 3%. 3% is the standard. If you have several no AF cards, I bet you have several with a 3% FTF.

Other than my Chase Amazon Visa card, I don’t have any 3% FTF cards.

Off the top of my head I have:

– 11 (or 12) cards with no FTF.
– 3 (or 2) cards with a FTF.
