Wells Fargo is the latest bank to offer contactless debit and credit cards. New customers will receive a contactless card when signing up and existing customers will receive a new contactless card when their existing card expires. Wells Fargo is the #1 debit card issuer by purchase and transaction volume, Wells Fargo customers will be able to use the contactless feature at Wells Fargo ATMs to withdraw funds (roughly 75% have contactless payments enabled, with the remaining enabled by end of year).
It isn’t immediately clear if customers will be able to request a card without this contactless feature, although I suspect it will be as other issuers have given consumers this option due to security concerns. Chase is another large issuer that recently started issuing contactless cards.
There’s a way to request a new WF debit card for free, but I don’t want to go into detail.

“Wells Fargo is the #1 debit card issuer by purchase and transaction volume”
That is surprising, after all their bad PR the last few years… is that stat perhaps a few years old?
Not that surprising IMO, they are a behemoth when it comes to checking accounts and debit cards.
I’m going for WF $1000 business checking bonus soon. I hope I don’t get any paperwork hassles with the bankers since I had a business checking account with them 2 years ago using a Sole prop. Wish me luck. I’m currently working on their $400 personal checking bonus. I hope I get the business checking offer whether they issue a contactless card or not.
I received a replacement card on April 1 due to fraud and it has a contactless icon on the back. No-fee Propel Amex.
Nevermind! My old card also was contactless too, but didnt notice before, so apparently not a new feature.
I just got a replacement Propel World and not contactless. Is your card still made a metal? And is the AmEx logo still silver?
Yes, both cards have a metal core, silver Amex logo, and contactless.
I received a new Chase Freedom Unlimited credit card with the contactless feature last week since mine expires this month.
I immediately went and disabled the contactless feature.
I have no need for it.
“When they expire”
So anyone with a new account in the last 2 years will have to wait a minimum of 3 years for a new contactless card? That’s one way to roll out new technology…
Normally after the initial roll out has been deemed successful companies will let you call in to request a replacement card with contactless.
First .. CEO leaves, now this… WF is on the right track!
