- Wyndham Gold = La Quinta Gold
- Wyndham Platinum, Diamond = La Quinta Elite
- La Quinta Elite = Wyndham Platinum
When converting points the ratio is 1:1 and names must match unfortunately. No opportunity to get orphaned points out of La Quinta accounts.
Wyndham has announced that it will acquire La Quinta Holdings hotel operations for $1.95 billion. This will add another 900 hotel properties to Wyndham’s collection. La Quinta will spin off it’s real estate assets into real estate investment trust CorePoint Lodging Inc. After the acquisition Wynham will have 9,000+ properties spanning 21 different brands. As this is the initial announcement it isn’t clear how La Quinta’s loyalty program will be integrated into Wyndham. Wyndham has a simple rewards program where you can redeem 15,000 points for a free night at any Wyndham property. Given that most La Quinta properties are mid to lower tier, there likely won’t be a lot of value for Wyndham loyalty members on the redemption side (feel free to point out any expensive La Quinta properties in the comments). In August of 2017 the LaQuinta card issued by FNBO was discontinued and replaced with a 2% cash back card.
Just had a nice stay at the Anchorage La Quinta. In August the nightly rate is $240. Bought 10,000 points for $97.50 and combined with miscellaneous promotional points for an inexpensive 11,000 point stay. It had less airplane noise than the Hyatt House we stayed at.

My biggest concern about this merger is about whether it will change La Quinta’s pet-friendly policy. We travel with our cats, and it’s a huge deal being able to book any LQ knowing we’ll be able to bring the cats with no problem and no fee.
Right now, we’re in the middle of a 19 day western-US road trip with the cats. Driving through eleven states, staying at eight La Quinta properties.
I’m not surprised that people have mixed feelings about La Quinta hotels, but we’ve stayed in some excellent La Quinta properties, most recently Page, AZ, which was great. I think what hurts the LQ brand is that, while the LQ’s that were build originally as LQ’s (like the one in Page) are really nice, they also have lots of rebranded properties in the portfolio, so you can be staying in what’s essentially a run-down late 60’s Motel 6 with a fresh coat of yellow and green paint. If it’s a La Quinta we haven’t stayed in yet, we try to read the reviews very carefully before booking.

I know that feeling when my PomPom can’t come along. There is a solution. Maybe not the most honest one but it works.
Register your cat as a service animal (emotional support animal). It cost like $30 and you get an official ID card in the mail and say good bye to “no pets allowed” or pet fees. It works for all hotels but not for Planes (you will need a letter from a licensed doctor for Airlines).
Emotional support animals are not recognized by all hotels, and will not get you around pet fees. There’s also no official “emotional support” recognition, so no official ID. If you’re gonna lie about that, you might as well print your own and save the $30.

I’ve got about 90k Wyndham points that I can’t really use because all of their brands around my area have really gone downhill. Or maybe I’m just pickier, not sure. However, this might give me a chance to use them on LQ stays. I’ve never stayed at LQ but from the comments it looks like a few people have had some luck finding decent hotels.

Its good to keep them for their nice resorts – all inclusive resorts and for a rainy day…
Also they have a chain Dolce with like 15 nice hotels. They dont show up in the regular Wyndham search but you could redeem Wyndham points on Dolce site.
Can I ask how you both got 90k Wyndham Points?
Was there a promo for their CC I missed? If I could get their $75 AF card with even 60k SUB i’d be in, unfortunately 30k is only 2 stays and not really worth it.
2 credit cards at 45K each. The elevated offer is 45K for the premium card with an AF. A really good deal if you can use the nights.
I got a lot of mine through dozens and dozens and dozens of hotel stays several years ago and I think one 45k point bonus on a card. I redeemed a lot of them before they went to the 15k flat rate.
That’s a great idea. I didn’t know they could be used for the Dolce chain.
We used 45K points for 3 nights on on the Big Island in Hawaii. It was super nice. I know that NYC and Virginia Beach also get good value out of points. I say keep them active and you never know when you will be in Hawaii, NYC or Virginia Beach.

It works if you have LQ’s Military’s Gold/Elite status too.
LQ is more like HIX level hotels, not fantastic in anyway but usually gives you a solid stay comparing to those motels they own like Days Inn or Super 8. Unfortunately they have changed Go Fast, so you’d never got too sweet of a deal out of it anymore, otherwise it would usually be a good choice to spend 3k points + 40-70 bucks for a LQ stay.
I doubt Justice would let them acquire Comfort Inn brands, but both Red Roof Inn and Motel 6 brands are independent and ripe for the purchase. They’d seem to fit right in to Wyndham’s refreshed portfolio! I want a finder’s fee for the recommendation.
