Our Verdict

Reader George reported seeing this incognito, and I got the same. We reported earlier today that the 100,000 bonus is now public, this is a similar two-tiered offer, but with an extra 10k in the first tier. Might be slightly better to use a referral link (mentioned in the earlier post), though after accounting for the tax angle that’s not even such a big difference. It’s also possible that you’ll be able to see this offer incognito using a referral link, let us know if you do.
Honestly, given the loss of the ease to use the $200 airline incidental credit, the Platinum cards are worth much less for me. Still, if you have an easy way of organically meeting the $25k spend requirement, it’s a nice bonus, especially if you can do it in $5k increments to trigger the 1.5x regular earn rate.

Standard offer on the card is 75k on $20k spend ($10k+$10k), this offer requires an additional $5,000 in spend and gets an extra 25,000 points. There’s also the call-in method which offers (YMMV) 100,000 points on just $10,000 in spend. As always you can read more about American Express cards here.

2 things missing from this post, which are important to note.

1) “Vendor Pay”, which gives you complimentary access to a tier of Bill.com , which lets you pay vendors/1099 contractors. For me, this will save over $400/yr vs. what I was previously using.

2) WeWork Platinum Global Access is showing as being offered for 12 months for free, so long as you register between by 12/31/19

I’ll be cancelling my personal platinum in January, after making use of one last set of airline fee and saks fifth avenue credits. It absolutely sucks that priority pass no longer includes non-lounge options, as I enjoyed getting sodas and snacks from that Gaming place at DFW airport, and an hour playing. It also sucks that they increased the personal AF to $550 and business AF to $595.

But the business platinum actually makes sense to keep, not just for the bonus, but because the value I get out of it results in being positive $200/yr (Bill.com – $400 savings, Dell – $200, Airline credit – $200).

People should decide for themselves whether they’ll make use of the benefits or get their moneys worth, especially when it costs $595 up front. For me though, the 110k bonus and +$200/yr make this a no brainer. I’ll just hope Amex doesn’t take an axe to everything again, since they seem hellbent on killing their customer base. Coupled with the Blue Business Plus earning 2% on everything, and this card getting 35% points back on airline redemptions, it’s a good combo.

How do you earn Airline credit? Can we still buy Gift Cards? Or just using for WIFI and refreshments?

Anyone have success using the pet fee method for the $200 airline incidental fee? Flyer Talk and Reddit have talked about the loophole.

Will probably get clawed back and you will get a bill for it in a year.
