Our Verdict
It’s possible to get a 100,000 offer by calling in, but that doesn’t work for everybody. If you haven’t had the card before I’d recommend trying that and if that doesn’t work just waiting for a 100,000 point offer. If you have had the card before and are targeted for this offer and it doesn’t contain the “Welcome bonus offer not available to applicants who have or have had this product” language then I do think it’s worth applying for if you can meet the large minimum spend requirement and get enough value out of the benefits to justify the $450 annual fee. We have seen a similar bonus on the BRG without lifetime language as well but unfortunately that isn’t available any longer. As always before applying please read our post on 25 things everybody should know about American Express cards as it will answer any basic questions you might have and also provides useful information for existing cardholders.
Hat tip to Churminator on /r/churning
It’s interesting to me how everytime the Business Platinums benefits are laid out (whether on great blogs like DoC or lackluster ones, or even on the Amex website itself) the bullet points always gloss over (or omit altogether) the 35%(previously 50%) rebate benefit.
FWIW. I don’t find it to be worth as much at 35% but you can bet I will continue rocking that benefit as hard as I can until my 50% grandfathered period ends next year. They keep making it harder and harder to use. Now they are saying that the 35% rebate will post after 6-8 weeks and the final 15% won’t post until after another 2-4 weeks (when the account has to pass through a manual review.)
Ok, I keep trying and not finding the offer and the link doesn’t work as I am always getting the “We are sorry, but you are not eligible for this offer.” thing.
I wonder, am I doing the incognito thing right? Can someone post the steps to properly doing so? I have tried Firefox and Chrome. Have tried going directly to AMEX without signing in and with signing in, etc. No luck.
Any advice on properly using Incognito (If I am not doing it right) would be greatly appreciated and maybe an easy “Howto” for general use would be a good post as well?
I got targeted for a similar offer… 75k MR but only $5k spending required.
but with AP going to sheet I don’t think I will do this.
Can you send us a screenshot? Was this also an online offer or was it a mail offer?
How did you get targeted for that offer?
I get this offer when I log in to my Amex Everyday card and this is under Amex offers & benefits.
It comes and goes… one day it’s there, then it’s not… but keeps coming back.
Correct me if I am wrong (and/or not reading closely), but to me two of the three unique (and worthwhile) features of this card are:
1) 0.35 MRs back on Business/First and/or chosen airline flights booked through Amex. Over the long haul, this makes all the MR points that one possesses worth 50% more. Psychologically, it’s a kick in the teeth that this is down from 0.50 rebate (= 100% increase in value over repeated expenditures), but it is still worth something, and potentially a lot for those sitting on high MR balances.
2) 10 annual gogo inflight internet access passes — much more valuable than Boingo, which is annoying and worthless (IMHO).
(The third unique feature, already listed, is 1.5x MR points on $5,000+ spends.)
Anyhow, chez nous, this is all just anecdotical, since not only am I not targeted (already holding Amex Plat and Amex Bus Plat, so why would they?), but neither is my wife, who is an AU on my Amex Plat but has otherwise never had a Plat card in her name. Oh well.
YMMV or Targeted. I guess either way its the same meaning.
I usually use Targeted when people have received an e-mail regarding something and YMMV when people need to log in/manually check to see if they are eligible.
Take screenshots…
