• American Express is offering a sign up bonus of up to 35,000 points on the SPG personal card. Bonus broken down as follows:
  • 25,000 points after $3,000 in spend within the first three months
  • 10,000 points after an additional $2,000 in spend within the first six months

• Offer valid until November 30th, 2017
• Welcome bonus offer not available to applicants who have or have had this product
• Annual fee of $95 is waived for the first year
• No foreign transaction fee
• Boingo internet access for up to four devices
• Premium in room internet at all SPG hotels
• Earn 2x points on all SPG purchases
• Earn 1x points on all other purchases
• Has reciporcal earning with Marriott/Ritz-Carlton

Our Verdict

Somewhat strange that the business offer for 35,000 points is public and this is targeted/YMMV. This is the same spending requirements as the last time this bonus was offered (but more than the first time 35,000 points were offered). Personally I think that if you’re targeted then signing up for this card and bonus makes sense as I doubt we will see a bonus higher than 35,000 points and who knows how much longer the SPG card will be available for (I suspect at least all of 2018 but who knows). I find SPG points quite valuable and flexible. They are obviously useful for redeeming for hotels (and the cost in points is much different than other chains like Hilton) and can be transferred to airline partners at a 1:1 rate and also to Marriott at a 1:3 rate.
