Bank of America Sonesta 125,000 Points Offer

Update: This post incorrectly stated this was a Barclays card, it is issued by Bank of America

Found a link on the homepage of Sonesta website so not targeted. Important information state: ‘This email only offer may not be available elsewhere. You can take advantage of this offer when you apply now.’ so might be targeted, unsure if that is enforced or not.

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Bank of America is offering 120,000 points after $2,000 in spend on the first 90 days of account opening on the Sonesta Mastercard. You also get:
    • 5,000 additional points after adding an authorized user within the first 90 days of account opening
    • 30,000 bonus points on your Account Anniversary, if you spend at least $7,500 on purchases in the anniversary year

Card Details

  • $75 annual fee waived first year
  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 3x points on eligible Sonesta purchases
    • 2x points on eligible airfare, car rental and dining purchases
    • 1 point for every $1 spent on all other purchases
  • Sonesta Travel Pass Gold status

Our Verdict

Points seem to be worth 0.75¢ – 1.5¢ towards Sonesta properties depending on the location and date. Properties cost between 10,000 and 50,000 points per night with most properties costing anywhere from 10,000-30,000 points. Unfortunately you need to be logged in to do any award searches.  Standard bonus is 80,000 points. Read this post about things you should know about Bank of America before applying. We will add this to our list of the best credit card bonuses.

I can’t seem to find the answer in comments so far. Can I just redeem the 125,000 points for $1250 in statement credit? I realize that isn’t the most optimal use, but that would be my intention with the card.

I got my first statement, but no points have posted in my Sonesta account. Did you guys have to manually link the card to the account? I used a different email for BofA and Sonesta, I’m thinking that might be the issue.

Got the 120000 but not the 5000 for the AU. Does that card have to be used once maybe?

Is your AU a real person or a cat?

I got the 5k on my first statement and didn’t use the auth user card. Just used my primary card online.

You HAVE to have reward points to search a reward booking? I signed up for the program but still can’t do a dummy search for rewards booking?

I just created an account with 0 point. If you clicked into a specific hotel, it shows the points per night. But I don’t find an option to search by points directly as well.

P2 denied. 2/12 with personal cards. 4/12 if counting AU cards. No BOA relationship.
Disappointing. Will try recon

If you cancel the credit card, can you still use the points? I found destinations that are 10k per night normally about $150 per night. They are not resort areas but that’s about 12 nights based on the bonus.

Yes once the points are in your Sonesta account, Bank of America can’t pull them back out.

Approved at lol/24 with 2 other cards with BofA. Had recently closed 3 others in the last 6 months. They approved me with a $3k CL while my other lines with them are $20k+ so I feel like I came in right on the edge.

When do the points expire? I’ve seen 2 years of inactivity on their site, but is there a card to downgrade so you can avoid the AF, but maintain activity?

I had 6000+ orphaned points that were supposed to expire in March of this year but didn’t. I had closed my first B of A Sonesta card in 2021. I just signed up for this one and the 120000 points were added to those. So, they might be flexible on expiry.
