The Offer
Update: @WallersWallet says his Wife got a 50k offer, maybe you can get matched to that as well?
- Citi has been sending out targeted offers for 40,000 miles on their Citi AAdvantage gold card. Bonus is broken down as follows:
- 30,000 miles after $750 in spend within three months
- Additional 10,000 miles after $5,000 in spend within six months
- Reddit user acslaterbro says that they were able to get matched to this offer from the current best offer of 25,000 miles after $750 in spend within three months. Obviously YMMV.
Card Details
- Annual fee of $50 is waived for the first 12 months
- Card earns at the following rates:
- 1x mile per $1 spent everywhere
- 25% savings on eligible in-flight food and beverage purchases
- Access to reduced milage awards
- American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles not available if you have had any Citi / AAdvantage card (other than a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage card) opened or closed in the past 24 months (we believe this doesn’t go into effect until August 28th)
Our Verdict
Pretty good bonus if you can manage to get matched to the higher 40,000 point bonus. This will be of interest to people who want to get an American Airlines bonus before the new Citi rules are in place. Just keep in mind you still won’t be eligible if you’ve opened or closed this specific card in the last 24 months.
I applied and was approved for Gold card with 25k / $750 spend offer just before 8/28. Yesterday I messaged them to explain that I received a 40k offer in the mail and would like to be matched. They confirmed the additional 15k miles would be deposited within 2 billing cycles. Still haven’t spent anything on the card.
15k miles received today
Does anyone have a copy of the targeted offer they wouldn’t mind sharing? I tried getting matched to the 50k, but they’re asking for a copy of it… Did the people who got successfully matched actually get targeted for this?
Don’t know if you’ve found the offer, but below is the one emailed to me from AA. Good luck.

Are you guys requesting match before or after meeting spend?
I opened both a Gold card with 25k/$700 bonus and a Platinum card with 50k/$3000 bonus. I asked for the match for each over secure message. Citi gave me 10k courtesy points on the Gold, but said they do cannot match offers. For the Platinum, they noticed I was receiving the courtesy points for the Gold already, and they declined to give me any additional bonuses.
I tried to get matched. They’re insisting I either mail in or email them the offer that I found. See conversation below

Suggestions anyone?
Thanks! Matched to 50k via SM
Congrats!
What did you say to them? And also, did the spend requirement change or kept at $750? Did you already meet the spend and they credited the extra miles right away?
Thanks!
Very interesting discussion. Just wondering why Citi would put the new language on the Gold app page, but then not enforce it until 8/28. Has there been more recent confirmation that this is still true?
Nobody knows. Citi is a strange beast.
I may have to try the 50K mile offer via SM. Anyone have any success matching to the 50K mile offer?
Hi William:
I received a mailer for the Platinum Select AA card for 50,000 miles sign up bonus. I closed the Platinum Select AA card account in April.
The term says it is only valid for new accounts. Then below that it says “if you are existing Citi/Aadvantage cardmember, you are not eligible for this offer on your existing account,”
So do I get the bonus if I apply?
I think you should based on the fine print of that offer (e.g it doesn’t have the 24 month rule on it at all and it was targeted). But don’t know for 100% certain.
I got a mailer with “Citi® / AAdvantage® Gold World EliteTM Mastercard®
William Charles Do you think I should be okay since they are different cards?
Earn 55,000 American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles after spending $4,000 in purchases within the first 4 months of opening your account, plus earn 10,000 American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles after spending a total of $6,000 in purchases within the first 12 months of opening your account”
However, I don’t understand what this means “if you are existing Citi/Aadvantage cardmember, you are not eligible for this offer on your existing account”
I got the Citi AAdvantage Platinum select card 3 months ago
Same issue here, still wondering whether I should apply for the gold card or not. Since it’s already 4 months past, do you have any new info. to share? Thanks a lot!
What are the benefits to this card? No Admiral Club access. It has 3%FTF. AF is $50 (not $95 like other AA cards).
Not a lot of benefits, but a lot of people already have the other AA cards and with the new rules coming in this might be a good option.
What is the 50k offer?
