[YMMV] Fee-Free Visa Giftcards for AAA Members

The Offer

  • Buy Visa gift cards with no activation fee during the months of May and June at some AAA branch locations.

Our Verdict

Reader Greg sent over the email he got about this offer from the local AAA branch. This typically runs twice per year at AAA locations, but it might only be in some areas/locations and not others; be sure to contact your local branch (or it might show up on the local AAA website).

Just spoke with local AAA. Cost is $3 locally. Still with the office being close, at least, I wouldn’t be using $3 in gas to drive to Staples in a heavy traffic retail area, which is much farther away. Likely inventory lack, as well. And, one card, better than three.

Will it count towards travel if you’re using a travel credit card…

I’ve never seen one before. Does anyone know who issues them and what denominations they have? Might be worth doing if they’re not Metas…

They were Metas five years ago. Meta actually called AAA to ban me buying more. Told the lovely lady I knew at AAA that I was being fraudulent. I bought less than $10k over the course of a year. I should see if that note is still on my AAA file.

does this count as a travel purchase or is there any other way to get bonus points off this?

I’ve gotten them in the past and it did NOT count for travel. I think it was membership or business service.

Can anyone confirm? If it is business services then makes sense to do it on BoFA Business Cash Rewards which has such a category for 3% and bit more for gold.

IME it does not code into bonus categories. If it varied by location, I am not sure of that.
