These are finally available for curbside pickup in my area. I tried to order one or get one off the shelf over the past week and the orders would get canceled, and in person, I was told they did not have them or that they had to be ordered online.

No warranty on the onn boxes. You’re on your own after the 90 day return window expires. It’s good while it works, but many people have had issues with the bluetooth chip overheating which disables the remote

I have all the Firesticks and now own the Fire TV Cube 3rd Gen. I like the Amazon devices, but I am looking close at these boxes. I like the generic platform. It will allow me to do almost anything without worrying about proprietary BS being forced on me. Amazon is very close to losing me. This would be my first option, especially on my secondary units. I would probably just to to Invidia Shield on my primary unit if I gave up completely on Amazon.
Name a better 4K box at this price point – or even double this price point. If you want to be locked into Roku’s abhorrent OS, you might consider Roku Express 4K+, but the MSRP on that is $40. FireTV stick requires Amazon account and tie-in to Amazon systems as well as restrictions that stock Android TV does not have – and is at least $50. Chromecast with Google TV 4K is also $50 and hasn’t been updated as recently (and doesn’t have a SoC with AV1 support).
Have you used this streaming box or its predecessor? The point is that it isn’t crap. It might not have Dolby Vision support and it unfortunately only has 8GB of storage (which can be expanded with external options), but you don’t buy a Corolla and say it is crap because it isn’t a Maybach.

I’ve had the first Onn streaming box for a couple of years. It does what it’s supposed to do and isn’t loaded with bloatware like Amazon sticks are. If this deal doesn’t interest you, move on.
Have you even tried this product? Android TV and Google TV set-top boxes are pretty much interchangeable since you are hooking them up to your TV. You’re not going to notice a difference between the Onn Google TV set-top box and the Chromecast with Google TV because the hardware is basically the same other than the color.
That’s a bit of a blanket statement. After two Apple MagSafe chargers biting the dust, I was out of town and my only option was an ONN MagSafe from WM, It worked like a charm and I’ve since bought a couple others. I also honestly like the ONN Corning Screen Protectors over Zagg. Yes, I know that Zagg is not the best on the market, but when I bought my iPhone 14 Pro, I figured that I’d just put a Zagg on it. I ended up pulling it off after a week and replaced it with the ONN. That is my only experience with ONN products, so can’t speak to everything else they make. I’m usually a brand name kind of person, but in these cases, prefer the ONN.
This Onn Google TV set-top box is a good product. It uses the same reference hardware design that Google uses for the Android TV developer models. The performance is fast for the price and I haven’t had any issues with the previous version. It’s basically exactly the same as the Chromecast with Google TV, but for a lower price.
Android TV is a better platform than Roku since the Android app selection is better. Stremio, CloudStream, and NewPipe are really great apps.

This is the normal price. They just released a new version in 2023, so stock is slowly rolling into stores. I haven’t seen it avail online. That said, I think this is a solid stream box and replaced my roku stick.
This is actually the new model just released. Not sure why it would be clearance. I think they just haven’t marked it available for shipping/general sale. The old model says Android TV on the box whereas the new model says Google TV. New model has a newer SoC which supports AV1 decode.
I think that is the major thing about this especially at this price point. AV1 decoding for $20…. not sure if any other device comes close to that price point yet.

Cheap crap is still crap. It doesn’t need to have a better, as cheap, alternative to be considered as such
I bought an ONN tablet. It was cheap and there wasn’t a better alternative available at a similar price. It was still crap.
