The Offer
- PayPal Rewards is offering some rewards on the following merchants: Walmart, McDonald’s, eBay, Office Depot & More
Our Verdict
Rates seem to vary by account and some don’t see any increased rates. Must pay with PayPal obviously.

almost got burnt by this
REMEMBER: the promo offer expired EXACTLY in 7 DAYS and sharp in SECOND (NOT EVEN MINUTE/HOUR)
Paypal never mentions this in the offer terms or the program terms
what is the cap? anecdotally it was 1500, but I tried with BB 6% one, and it is 6% fully working for a $1600 transaction
Bought a $500 Walmart physical gift card to try and double-dip this 8% Paypal offer with 5% back from Discover. It’s looking promising so far… 4000 PP points are pending and “Walmart.com” charge coding passed through PP to Discover’s system.
I have the same offer in my PayPal account. Maybe this sounds dumb, but how do you use it? Do you have to have PayPal on your phone? I have only logged into my account on a PC.
Once you have activated the offer in Paypal, you can checkout with Paypal at Walmart.com using any of the credit cards you have loaded in Paypal and the offer will be redeemed automatically.
The Walmart credit card gets 5% on online merchandise but only gets 2% cashback on giftcards AFAIK so I think Discover’s 5% is the best option for giftcards. You can also try to stack a shopping portal but I haven’t had any luck there when buying gift cards.
Note the 8% Paypal offer can only be used once, then it will reappear at 1%. I have PP points pending for the giftcard purchase but I cannot say for sure they won’t be clawed back yet.
Using Paypal to pay at Walmart did NOT work for Discover’s 5% Walmart category. 🙁
this is a very useful dp although it saddens me. I was really hoping it did stack. Paypal checkouts never had this problem. Are you sure your Discover ? Is your Discover statement already closed ?
Thanks for trying this out.
So if Discover 5% is a bo go second best is a 2% card unless one has a Paypal card I would think. Right ?
TY
My Discover statement has not closed yet but the transaction is fully processed and I see $5 in the “1% everwhere else” section of the quarterly cashback page and in the app’s details page. Paypal is not mentioned at all in the terms for the Walmart category and the transaction coded as “Discount Stores” just like all the non-Paypal Walmart transactions, so I might try inquiring with them about it.
The 4000 PP points from my $500 Walmart giftcard purchase became payable today.
Is there a limit on the amount of 8% cash back you can receive for walmart?
Is McDonald one time or multiple times allowed for 20% off?
I activated and used the McD deal and afterwards the deal reappeared and could be reapplied in Paypal Rewards. No reward points are pending yet but it looks like it may be reusable.
I was able to redeem the 20% cashback at McD’s twice and now the offer is appearing again at 5% cashback.
I already got the Paypal points for the first McD’s 20% transaction deposited in my account.
Got 20% McD (useless) on 2 accounts, but unfortunately no Walmart deal.
Just purchased $50 WM GC using:
6% back Retailmenot
3% back PayPal Mastercard
8% back PayPal Reward
I will report whether this triple stack worked.
8% back PayPal Reward pending immediately.
Egift card or physical card?
Physical. ETA 7/1/24
Updated ETA 6/30/24 via Fedex.
Did you see 6% from retailmenot? Usually it takes one day to show.
6% from RMN went pending today.
Is there any limit on RTMs 6% ?
Indie IIRC, RMT is $50 max.
There are other restrictions, like how many cash back offers per retailer per month. Think that’s three.
Thanks much Celia!
Under the Terms and Conditions for the Walmart offer almost every category is under the excluded list.
Doesn’t say gift cards are excluded but I’m sure it applies under “other exclusions will apply”. Anyone can confirm?
I think this is going to be very ymmv- I see on two accounts
eBay 2%
Walmart 8%
ticket master 6%
Best Buy 6%
od 3%
staples 2%
and others
