Signup for an Ebates-Membership Rewards Account with an American Express Business Card

[Update: Readers confirm in the comments that anyone with an Amex business card can now signup for the new Ebates-MR account directly, no use the method described below.]

The new Ebates – Membership Rewards account was only possible to obtain for those with a personal MR-earning card, it didn’t work for those only with a business card. Reader K. sent in a tip that they were able to signup for the new Ebates account with only a business card via a ‘Special Promotions for You’ link from within their Amex login.

This doesn’t matter for anyone who has personal cards, but if you only have Amex business cards this tip might work for you. It’s also possible that they changed the rule and now allow anyone who has a business card to signup directly. I have no way of testing this myself.

Any idea whose server stores the AMEX MR-to-ebates accounts linkage? Can’t find it on the AMEX site. Perhaps you create the linkage on ebates side only after earning sufficient Big Fat Cashback? TIA

What are people redeeming MR points for at values greater than $.01 /point which would make this Ebates AMEX partnership worthwhile? Etihad airline and Singapore KrisFlyer’s points?

Pretty much any 1:1 or better airline (with the right flight – gotta do the math). Additionally, Biz Plat cardholders get a 35% rebate on point redemptions for their selected airline and/or 1st class/business tickets on any airline. Significantly better than cash, if you travel.

Thanks Brian! I have the Business Platinum AMEX but it’s been a couple years since I redeemed any MR points. The last time I redeemed points was for a hotel giftcard which was not a great value.

Contact ebates, tell them you want to convert your account to earn MR. They’ll email you back (I got a response within minutes) and tell you to create a new account and how to do it. I just added a period in my gmail address and now am earning MRs! And no issues with fraud since you are following their instructions.

Did they convert your old cash back as well or you just empty that account to cash and only use the new one?

Only for new members, or just create a second account?

I’m still not able to actually sign up. I go to the eBates/Rakuten landing page, put in another email address, then sign in Amex. It says I’m eligible, then restarts the whole form.

Anyone else having this issue, or find some way around it? If I make a new account ‘normally’, that would invalidate me for the bonus, yes?

Must have been something about my previous attempts to sign up, or it doesn’t like my “.tech” email addresses. I was able to get in using a typo’d email address, but wouldn’t let me change to my original ones.
Either way, finally signed up.

So if I have a ebates account now (have since 5 years) I can open up another account with same email via Amex MR link? Won’t ebates consider it duplicate and freeze/block both accounts under their stupid fraud alert system?

Since the 15K MRs offer became available, I haven’t been able to sing up for ebates bc I keep on getting this message:

‘Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again’

Same thing today? My account consist of a mixer of cards like charge cards, Hilton, delta, rose gold, and everyday preferred.

Also, I can’t locate the ‘Special Offers for you’? I have seen it before, but I can’t remember where?

I experienced the same error message. Turning off Content Blocking temporarily in Firefox (accessible from the URL bar button) resolved the issue for me.
